Hi,

with kernel-3.3.0 and the new drivers to this kernel i have here the problem if i will start the first one after booting
a movie (.ts, or avi (xvid), or mp4, or whatever) then this takes a long time till the movie starts (circa 40 seconds)
i have testet this many times and the harddisc doesn't sleep after booting.
as player i use EMC but i think it's not a player problem.

can anyone yet test this with other players as standard movie player and confirm it ?

now i have installed a fullbackup with kernel-3.2.2 and here all it's ok
if i start here a movie the first one after booting it startet promptly

regards

Hi Guys,

ok now i have testet many times -> when i use EMC and then i booting the box and then i start a movie the first one
it comes the spinner and it takes some time before the movie starts.
it's different for movies as .ts records it takes ca. 10 seconds but for movies as avis and mp4 it takes ca. 40 seconds.

when in deinstall EMC and use the Standard Movie Player then after booting the box the same movies starts promptly
but now the spinner comes if i stop the playback of the movies -> i think it's the same problem as in EMC but only with the
difference that the problem now is coming if i will stop the playback of the movie.

my hdd is formatted with ext3 and with kernel-3.2.2 i didn't have this problem.
maybe it's a problem with filesystem, i don't know but i need for test the right kernel-module-ext3
which we didn't have anymore in kernel-3.3.0

at this time i know two other users in xtrend forum they have the same problem.

I think your problem is caused by EMC.
Probably even after you remove it, some files are left.
Try a clean install, without EMC.

sorry pieterg this is sure not my problem -> i have maked a little test now
and now i know what's caused the problem.
the problem comes only when i use the ext4 driver to mount my ext3 formatted hdd

why i know it now ?
here which i have testet,

i didn't have this problem with kernel-3.2.2, only with kernel-3.3.0 i became this problem
so i changed in my image with kernel-3.2.2 now my fstab entry from this;
UUID=3ddeaea6-1042-4454-97ca-ae17fc55684e   /media/hdd   ext3   rw,data=ordered   0  0
to this;
UUID=3ddeaea6-1042-4454-97ca-ae17fc55684e   /media/hdd  ext4   rw,data=ordered   0  0
so after a reboot my harddisc was mountet with the ext4 driver now and when i now start a movie it comes the problem promptly also with kernel-3.2.2

i think the only solution now when i and other users with ext2 and ext3 formatted harddisc want use kernel-3.3.0 is you give us the kernel-module-ext3 and kernel-module-ext2
package to install for kernel-3.3.0 as it was in images with older kernel-3.2.2

so you're saying you have read latency issues with the ext4 driver? That would be very weird.

yes that's right it is as i have testet -> i have now image with kernel-3.2.2 and my fstab changed return to;
UUID=3ddeaea6-1042-4454-97ca-ae17fc55684e   /media/hdd   ext3   rw,data=ordered   0  0
and i have installed in this image the kernel-module-ex3 package and the problem is solved.

but i can't update to image with kernel-3.3.0 since here we didn't have at this time the chance to install kernel-module-ext* packages
and so i have this problem with kernel-3.3.0 for ever.
i didn't want to change my filesystem ext3 to ext4 because i didn't have problems (freezer problem i didn't have too) before this problem here with my hdd with ext3
filesystem.

ext4 is good for development and it's maybe good too for harddiscs they where formatted in ext4, i don't know,
but i think to mount harddiscs they are formatted in ext2 or ext3 it is not perfect enough at this time.

Hi,

it's only feedback, now this problem is solved with the kernel-module-ext3 package from feed
in image with kernel-3.3.0 and fstab entry;
UUID=3ddeaea6-1042-4454-97ca-ae17fc55684e   /media/hdd   ext3   rw,data=ordered   0  0
