Please update tomorrow and try again. Pieterg has just commited a sort of a workaround to a driver problem that very well may fix this problem.

no, you misunderstood my conclusions.
It's a driver bug, which we cannot work around.

the commit you are referring to just avoids this bug to be triggered by subtitle selection.
But in the problems described in this thread, it will continue to occur, there is no way around it.

What I don't understand: vu is packaging boxes with openpli on them but has no account here. At least they should be involved by reading and writing in this forum.
Look at sundtek, that user is reading and writing active here at the moment and they even not use openpli to sell their dvb-c sticks.
Vu isn't even responding to direct emails users here write to them.

vu isnt using openpli on their boxes, they are using dvbapp :) as far as i know...
And iam dissapointed with vu driver development in last months. CT/Xtrend is much better here. If Vu decided to use 3.x kernel they should keep updating it + drivers too. Maybe they are working on XBMC?

Sorry for asking, but as far as I understood the OP's problem only occurs when he is recording to a NAS. How can the vu drivers be responsible for that? Shouldn't the location of the file (s) being recorded to and being played back from be irrelevant from the drivers point of view ("everything is a file")?

That's not what I read in this topic.
The topic starter happens to use a NAS for recordings, because he does not have an internal hdd.
The recording location should not make a difference for this particular issue.

This is the issue as I understand it:
play back a recording which is still being recorded, and you will get no PAT.

and the problem is playback freezes only when recording to a NAS, everything is ok when recording to an external usb drive, i am not sure if 'no pat' is related to my problem... so the topic could be misleading... sorry

@pieterg do you still think it's a driver issue?

<speculation mode>
I assume that you don't have problems recording to the NAS and simultaneously watching a different (finished) recording? And as you say there were no problems prior to the 3.1 kernel? Maybe the change to the 3.1 kernel coincided with a change in enigma2 like changing recording and/or playback buffer sizes. What protocol do you use to connect to your NAS, SMB or NFS? Could there have been changes in those protocols?
</speculation mode>

@pieterg I never have had this problem and I quite frequently start watching an ongoing recording.

@dvboxer exactly as you assume, no problems when recording and watching a finished recording, i am using nfs, no problems on 2.6.18

could somebody test a recording to NAS and tell us if he has any problems?

Could you possibly try samba? Just to check it is not an NFS problem.

I've got some interesting results...

Mounted the same share via cifs and nfs.

* record via cifs / watch via cifs - all ok
* record via cifs / watch via nfs - all ok
* record via nfs / watch via cifs - all ok
* record via nfs / watch via nfs - not ok

Here are mount options for nfs:
rw,noatime,vers=3,rsize=65536,wsize=65536,namlen=255,hard,nolock,proto=tcp,port=65535,timeo=70,retrans=3,sec=sys,local_lock=all,addr=192.168.13.7

What could be wrong with nfs?

That's what I suspected. NFS seems to have a problem opening the same file twice, once for writing and once for reading. Your rsize and wsize are quite high. I guess you posted the values from /proc/mount. The man page says that effective value is negotiated by the client and server. You might want to play around with those parameters.

Hi OpenPLI team,

I am using OpenPLI 2.1 on my vuduo and the nfs problem (stuttering when playing a recording in progress or timeshift) showed up again after one of the recent updates (the one around 26-28 september). Here is a list of packages that make a difference...
