total newbie
Need some help as seller (hm-sat -de) not responding. i bought vu+ duo (not clone)

i'm unsure what firmware i have been sold. it says:

version Nov 8 2011 -vuplus_experimental
Image: experimental 2011-11-08

what firmware is this? PLi?

I would like to upgrade, i'm told PLi is good. what is most stable version?

Can I do this on line and if so how? link to instructions etc?

Also is it easier just to flash?

Will new flash/firmware replace deleted root/password from folder? (accidentally...long story and completely lost all ftp / telnet access) 'change root password' plugin ineffectual as folder gone!

thankyou for your help

I assume it would say OpenPLi if it was OpenPLi installed, rather than -vuplus_experimental.

You can't "upgrade" an image to a completely different image, although you can "flash" any supported image you like, but that's not really an upgrade/update. Once installed you'd be able to update OpenPLi to newer versions, over the network with the remote...

OpenPLi images for your box would be linked off the frontpage/Home (openpli.org) under Nightly Builds.

I'd think flashing instructions would be on the OpenPLi Wiki, but I have no Vu boxes so I never actually looked. ;)

A fresh flash will replace EVERYTHING from the old image, passwords, configs, etc...

Thank you for replying!

so i think you are saying:

1. Find an OpenPLi image
2. flash it with usb stick... then i have replaced original with PLI
3. then update

An immediate update isn't necessary, but in the future you should be able to simply update the image with a few remote clicks. Personally I update my image once a month or so, some folks seem to do it daily ( and panic if nothing has changed ;) ), others are running images from 2010...

I tried to update mine with some plugin's and it comes up with something about may need to run opkg_updater and didn't update and I have no idea where to get that from , the box is not connected all the time to the net as there is no point near where it is for this .

Enigma may 9 2011 No branch

i got this 2nd had, it goes good just wanted some extras, never had anything to do with Linux before

If you're using a year old (Enigma may 9 2011) OpenPLi image, I don't think the old images & their software feeds are supported anymore.

Updating to a modern image should return the feeds.

OpenPLi's WIKI should have information on flashing the various boxes. Remember that flashing overwrites everything contained in flash, backup any important files, i.e. cam configs, etc...
