What are you trying to do with the western satellites?

I am going to write a program that allows me to re-assign the orbital position.   The problem lies in the fact, i initially setup a bunch of Cband diseqc 1.2 and now i added USALS, and the proper orbital position is taken.  I figured out how to manually edit the satellites.xml / lamedb and settings file to modify the orbital position and fix all the references, but yesterday when i asked the question, i wasn't sure how it was calculating the western satellites.

Hey, i have an additional question :

after issuing a init 4 command , How do i get enigma restarted without rebooting?  I want need to  make sure i can start it without it being linked to the telnet session I'm connected too.

I have been issuing a reboot command, but it would be a lot nicer if i could figure out how to restart it.  Also, does anyone know why the telnet session is dropped when you issue a init 4? Is there a way to issue the Init 4 command so it won't dump the telnet session i'm in?

init 3 is the answer. init 4 to stop and init 3 to restart.

It’s a dreambox with no (genuine) OpenPLi on it.
In OpenPLi images “init 4” don’t stop the Telnet session.

I admire your efforts to fix a problem that should not exist. It sounds like you have installed an image that was really not designed for c band use. Genuine PLi images ship with a satellites.xml file that have the correct orbit position for the ku satellites, and the c band satellites have an orbit position offset by .1 degree for almost all of the satellites. You probably would have never had the problem assigning c or ku rotor positions if you had a correctly designed satellites.xml file.

Some fta receivers including most Vu+ and Dreambox brand of receivers do not work well in North America. These receivers seem to be designed for subscription services more than fta services, and some c band features either do not exist or do not work as we would like. There is nothing inherently wrong with these models or brands of receivers, but they just do not work well in the North American world.

You will probably have better results building your own enigma2 image.  You seem to be very capable with programming. Building your own image will give you more freedom and make customizing easier. Enigma2 image building is not difficult, but it does take time and patience.

Yea, you learn as you go.  I haven't found another image for the DM900/DM920's that work as well as the dreamElite image Im currently using, and no one has really given ideas.  I now have so much customization and time invested, I'm not sure If i want to move to another image at this point.    I've customized plugins, I've modified the linux environment and samba and custom scripts on it

I finished writing my program, and it works well... I just need to move a few oribital positions around, and ill be good to go.  The reason i post on this forum, is you guys have technical information that i have applied to my image.. Heck, if they had a OpenPli image for the DM920, I'd be on it like white on rice.

Thanks El Bandido...

That is nothing to do with my site. Mine has been running without any problem for at least the last 8 years. Was created as other creators at the time were producing junk.

First listing on google for satellites.xml.
