Hi
I have a dm8000 with openpli 3.0..
after like 1-2days of uptime the box begans to be real slow in menys and such.. the 'thinking wheels' always turns up when etc changing channel.

so i wonder if there is a smart addon or a script that can flush the mem easy?.. or a 'time based' .. like flush every 5th hour or so?

big thx for all your effort on making the best image

What plugins did you install?

The box should be able to run for months without rebooting or needing any "flush" at all. Like mine. What you describe sounds like a bug (memory leak?) in a plugin.

What MiLo already says. If memory is lost, it's LOST due to a memory leak. There is no way to "regain" it (apart from rebooting the box or restarting enigma, depending on the source of the leak). Linux doesn't work with garbage collectors like e.g. java does. When memory is released by an application, it's available for re-use immediately.

I suspect crossepg has a serious memory leak. The problem is, it runs as a plugin in the enigma process space, so it doesn't have it's own memory. Downside: you cannot simply kill the process to reclaim the memory, upside: it will suffice to restart enigma for a clean start, you don't need to restart the box.

i havent installed any wierd plugins

What are the non wierd plugins then? And why don't you use xmltv (open source) instead of crossepg (which is as far I known closed source)

IIRC crossepg has data on some channels that xmltv doesn't have. But indeed, crossepg is always trouble, you might be better without it.

The (Open)Webinterface is the simplest way to check how much memory is still available. The "free" amount is actually correct, in contrast to what other tools will tell you. Most tools will say that about 100% is being used, which is also correct, because not using it (for caching) would be a waste, but isn't of much use to end-users.

Does that mean that the Open-TV (proprietary EPG system) could be extracted from Cross and added to the in PLi supported systems?
If so that would be a great enhancement of PLi: Open-TV is a very good system, in which the data is being kept up-to-date very well.

there have been opentv implementations around for quite some time.
The only reason we haven't added an opentv reader to e2 is that ideally we should fix the epgcache before adding new readers.
(doesn't feel right to just pile more garbage onto an already growing heap, makes it harder to restructure things)

Well, first of all one doesn't have to activate all the types of EPG.
Secondly: supporting Open-TV would omit the need to use the instable Cross-EPG plugin (most people use it for Open-TV, maybe xmltv added);
Thirdly this would make PLi even more outstanding. It is (AFAIK) already the only image supporting several proprietary EPG-systems; adding Open-TV would make that even better.

Yep, currently the EPG cache is allowed "unlimited growth", combined with a highly fragmented memory structure that makes it impossible to determine how much RAM is actually being consumed by it. If you (really) run out of RAM, usually the EPG data is to blame.

ok.. i will uninstall crossEPG and see if that helps. CLEARMEM has done the trick for me now anyways but box uses around 98% of memory.

is there any xmltv version that works on OPENPLi 3.0?
