AMSTERDAM - De Nederlandse eredivisieclubs hebben de grootste tv-deal in de historie van het voetbal gesloten. Voor meer dan 1 miljard euro worden de uitzendrechten vanaf het seizoen 2013-2014 voor twaalf jaar verkocht aan het Amerikaanse tv-netwerk Fox van mediamagnaat Rupert Murdoch, dat onder de naam Sky eerder dit jaar ook de rechten van de Bundesliga heeft gekocht.
De even sensationele als verrassende deal is afgelopen week in Londen gesloten en in de voorbije dagen in het diepste geheim voorgelegd aan de directies van alle eredivisieclubs. Vanwege de enorme omvang van het contract moesten alle betrokkenen een document tot geheimhouding tekenen.
60 miljoen euro
Het bedrijf van Murdoch betaalt in het eerste jaar een bedrag van ruim 60 miljoen euro, daarna loopt het contract op naar 80 en 100 miljoen euro per seizoen. Gemiddeld komt het tv-contract neer op zo’n 80 miljoen per jaar (960 miljoen euro totaal tot 2025). Daarbovenop neemt Fox ook meteen de schuld van meer dan 60 miljoen euro, die Eredivisie Live nog heeft, voor zijn rekening. Daarmee komt de deal boven het miljard euro.
De eredivisieclubs behouden 49 procent van hun aandelen, de overige 51 procent komt in handen van Fox. De verwachting is dat in Nederland de zender nog meer sporten gaat uitzenden en dat er op den duur een complete sportzender ontstaat. De gevolgen voor de NOS zijn onzeker.

I don't dispute it's expensive (it is, especially if you have all packages), but compared to the 15 pound/month the Dutch pay for a handful of channels in if you're lucky VHS quality, it is imho not too bad at all...

I lived in the UK for 17 years and have many friends/acquaintances and all the stuff I saw/experienced/debated was not positive at all...
