1. did an usual software update of openpli 2.1 beta on dm800 hd pvr
2. it restarted itself automatically
3. now it keep standing by on "Dream Multimedia" "dhcp.." "/flash/vmlinux.gz"
4. after certain period of time it does do automatically restart of the box and go again to line #3 (nothing on screen)

I can't connect to the box. Tried also to restart while pressing the front button - this allowed me to use the bootloader (#84) over telnet, but nothing seems to be wrong there.

I really appreciate for any help as I would like to avoid re-flashing due to missing backup of all configurations / settings :(

I have left it off now for 6 hours to cool down without power - still '/flash/vmlinuz.gz' and this is it

I'm thinking out loud - maybe there are ways to set different kernel parameters using the bootloader setup or load a different kernel etc? If none of this works - maybe I can somehow still get access to the fs of the current flash in order to save config files as this is the most precious content I'm afraid of loosing :(

Guys, any help what so ever is very much appreciated!

Now you see why backups are created while a computer is running as it's supposed to, it becomes considerably more difficult AFTER the computer has died... ;)

If you can't boot the DB, I guess your only choice would be to boot it from USB or network & once running mount the flash partitions & recover your files. How difficult that is depends on how knowledgeable you are w/ the DB. The wiki has a how to for booting from USB that could help. IIRC some of the steps assume a running DB so you'd need to come up w/ alternative methods on a PC (unless you have a 2nd DB).

Good luck,
