Hello,

I just put a hard disk into my VU+ box, and started initialising it. A pop-up window appeared, showing "Model", "Capacity" and "Bus". Underneath these is a red light indicator with "Initialise" beside it.

Does the light change colour when finished? No change as far as I can see after two hours. Maybe my old colour-blind eyes can't see the difference. ;<)

To test, I exited, and the disk was successfully initialised.

Just realised, the red indicator was a cue to press the red button to start initialisation. Duh...
Pressing the red button seemed to initialise the disk, and initialise disk menu window reappeared after about 5 seconds. Seems to be initialised.
The blue button didn't do anything when this menu was displayed.

When you get out the menu, then puss the Blue button.

I have a suggestion.

When I start disk initialisation with RED button, no information is seen on the screen if the initialisation is in progress or not.

Normally, the initialisation of course takes place sort of in the background but do you think it would be possible to see a progress bar when initialisation is started?

If it already is possible using another button (BLUE or something), it should be somehow indicated that a given button will indeed show progress bar.

The progress should indeed be shown with the blue button...

OK, but who would have guessed that?

Maybe there should be such information next to the "RED initialize" at the bottom of the screen?

Something like "BLUE show progress".

At the moment when I presss RED to start initialization, menu goes one back and it is not clear if initialisation is indeed going on (if you don't know about the BLUE button function).

hmm, possibly such info could be added to the hdd initialisation question, eg:
- question=_("Do you really want to initialize the device?\nAll data on the disk will be lost!"))
+ question=_("Do you really want to initialize the device?\nAll data on the disk will be lost!\nWhen started, the progress of the initialisation can be tracked anytime\nin the extensions menu (pressing a blue button)."))
all hdd questions are two-part, I suggest a small adjustment of 'general' question too, to be unambiguous in conjunction with the 'new' initialisation question
- message = self.question + "\n" + _("You can continue watching TV etc. while this is running.")
+ message = self.question + "\n" + _("You can continue watching TV etc. while operation is running.")
so, it would be something like this:
Do you really want to initialize the device?
All data on the disk will be lost!
When started, the progress of the initialisation can be tracked anytime
in the extensions menu (pressing a blue button).
You can continue watching TV etc. while operation is running.
just a quick suggestion, from the top off my head, not sure how all of it would fit into the message window, exact wording etc...

Hi,

Same remarks also applied to Filesystem check, we don't know if it is started and how to check its progression. Now I saw that it is also mentionned in the blue button menu.

Anyway this thread allows me to find a new "bug" reported here:

blah, blah, blah...

ok, since there's some status tracing possible under the blue also for ext3>4 conversion and fs check, I would propose something like on the screenshot below
