If we do not have multiboot, have some version of dflash, PLI functional in 3.0?
gutemine is pretty sure that it works too :-)
Don't know if you are gutemine but i've tryed dflash 2 times ,and when i make the backup everything is fine but when you recover ,the box will go in stop mode after reboot.
I have a dm8000 with Openpli 3.0.
Perhaps i am doing something wrong although the backup is created fine.

/tmp/dFlash/bin/mkfs.jffs2 -L
mkfs.jffs2: error!:
lzo priority:80 enabled <<<<
zlib priority:60 enabled
rtime priority:50 enabled
The problem is that this is one of gutemine's 'clone friedly binaries', which means there are lot of old or hacked versions of dFlash which use old mkfs.jffs2 binaries which are only capable of zlib compression. Which will only produce non bootable backups as the PLi Kernel doesn't support it anymore.
If you use latest dFlash gutemine is pretty sure that it works as it should.
If you don't like this approach compile your own mkfs.jffs2 binary - it's all open source.

it works nicely if you have a dFlash version with mkfs.jffs supporting lzo compression too. This can be easily checked in telnet:
/tmp/dFlash/bin/mkfs.jffs2 -L
mkfs.jffs2: error!:
lzo priority:80 enabled <<<<
zlib priority:60 enabled
rtime priority:50 enabled

This is my output :

Version of dflash = 7.9 and that's the one from the feed of Openpli.
I'm sorry ,i cannot compile myself.
Which one is the latest version and could you provide it to Openpli please?

If you want it the it should be no problem to find it.
And yes 7.9 should work too, but some of its binaries will not like the holiday season as gutemine always only supports the latest version.

But this is something you could easily find out yourself ... as this is not a support Thread.
