I'm having problems using timeshift running OpenPLi 3.0 on dm500hd. A cifs share is mounted for recording timeshift information.

I'm using the plugin enigma2-plugin-extensions-multiquickbutton version 2.7 to change the yellow button on the remote control to become pause (timeshift), just as in older versions. Timeshift also starts correctly when pausing live TV.

After the program has been paused for some minutes (or sometimes much longer) the playback is skipped forward to current time and then resumed, even though I haven't touched the remote. If I've just paused for a couple of minutes and then resumes playback it always skips forward to current time after awhile anyways, while watching.

The file containing the timeshift information is still being used however and thus growing larger. I'm able to pause again and reverse to previously recorded material, as it's still timeshifting, but it's very annoying. I have reverted to use the latest version of OpenPLi 2.1 instead, where this works flawlessly, as the timeshift functionality is a must for me.

Have anyone else noticed this problem or know about a possible workaround?

I pause (timeshift) a live TV program. After being paused for a couple of minutes it resumes playback automatically (and skips to present time as well) without me touching the remote.

In OpenPLi 2.1 and previous versions it was paused until I pressed the play button, which it's supposed to.

I can add that there's no problems recording live TV programs. I can even choose to playback this recording (from the video button) at the same time AND pause it forever. Like timeshift, but far from as convenient as just pressing the pause button to do that.

I have the same problem. When I press the pause button the program starts to play again after a while without any interaction. And if I pause and then press the play button on the remote, it jumps to real time (no timeshift) after a while so the time shift function is pretty useless. I have a dm800 se.

I don´t have an internal hard drive (or external), I have a NAS mounted so maybe it deals with that.

well....better but not perfect... it still jumps back to real time playing after playing in timeshift mode for a while.

You use a NAS.... probably this might be a configuration issue and the box does not see the growing file while playing.....

I'm getting the problem when connecting to an Samba 3.5.6 CIFS share on Debian Squeeze. Something has to have changed in OE 2.0, as this problem never occurs when using OE 1.6 and older (same Samba server and share). Have googled a lot on this issue and the official DMM forums as well, but haven't found a solution yet.

How can I use/install/try PTS and what is it?

PTS + CIFS is not a valid setup. PTS works with hardlinks which are not possible over CIFS.
Standard timeshift should work though. I will try to reproduce the issue.

I hope you're able to reproduce the issue. Please let us know if you need information about specific configuration or anything else. Just glad if this could be resolved somehow as I really would love to install the latest OpenPLi.

When I use the harddisk of another box I have to set oplocks=no in smb.conf on the "server" box to allow that the growing of files is correctly handled by the "client" box....

Nice to know, thanks! I've prepared the Samba daemon with oplocks=no for that specific share. Now, if only my girlfriend would hand over that box for some testing. Will report progress as soon as possible though.

You'd probably be better off using a NFS share from the Debian box. NFS is fully supported under Linux, allowing hardlinks, symlinks, file permissions, etc... You could even share the same directories w/ Samba & NFS if Samba was required for another application if you had to...

I previously connected the box to a NFS share on the Debian box, but only tried playback of MKV files before giving up on it. Big 1080p movies stuttered from time to time when using NFS, but using Samba and CIFS the same MKV played without a hitch. Very weird as NFS is supposed to have better performance on Linux. Don't know if there is any tweaks to squeeze more performance out of NFS, but maybe I could try using it for my Dreambox share (the one that records) instead of CIFS.

/etc/exports:
/mnt/raid/share x.x.x.x/24(rw,async,no_subtree_check,all_squash,anonuid=x,anongid=x)

I'll try the oplocks parameter as well and report back with results as soon as possible.

Just to inform... for some unknown reason my NAS was mounted as a CIFS share and when I changed it to NFS the timeshift works much better.

Standard timeshift, rewind does not work at all  !!!
Can anyone confirm that?
P.S.Over the past six months, the developers have done a lot of PLi changes with operation software.
Now stopped working very necessary things.
