Could you please add another option for the updater that doesn't update the satellites.xml?

I want to do this manually. My channellist becomes screwed up when I forget to upload
my xml-file after update.

Put your sattelites.xml in /etc/enigma2 and it won't get overwritten.

I know,I do that now. It's just really annonying when I forget. Adding another option that doesn't update satellites.xml
would be great.

When would you need to do that again then? I guess once would be enough?

There's an option just to update satellites.xml, why can't there also be an option just to update the software?? Yesterday i screwed up my channellist again when i tried to update software. I did put in my own satellites.xml file in both locations and restarted box, but it didn't help. Please put in this option.

This is such a good image, this is the only thing missing.

If you are going to maintain your own channellist, you will have to actually do that. That means either:
- make your own channellist and never install a channellist / settings list from anyone
- or install a channellist / settingslist once, copy it using a settings list editor and then UNINSTALL the settings list

The rationale is that if you're using a channels list, you're probably will want to have it up to date, and most users indeed want that. And that if you're maintaining your own list, you simply make your own and don't install a prefab one.

Sorry to have bothered you, but I thought it would be a good idea to implement this.

No, it will not.

It will only be replaced if it is under version control, and it can only be under version control if you have a settinglist installed from the downloads. If not, the package manager will leave it alone.

I update all my boxes virtually on a daily basis, and mine has never been replaced.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

For some reason mine does and it's really annoying because it screws up my channellist when I search for new channels with the wrong satellites.xml.

Then you have something installed that includes /etc/enigma2/satellites.xml. No other possibility.

Login to your box with telnet or ssh, type the command 'opkg list-installed', and paste/attach the result here, so we can see if we can find the culprit.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Don't see anything immediately wrong here. A few packages I can't place, maybe one of the devs can comment on it.

Your /etc/enigma2/satellites.xml is a real file, not a symlink to the system file (in usr/share) which WILL be replaced on an update?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Are you actually using an upgrade or are you completely flashing every time (which is unnecessary)?

When you do an update, only files that are part of package are replaced. /etc/enigma2/satellites.xml is not part of any package so it will get replaced. You can confirm that using opkg search /etc/enigm2/satellites.xml
root@dm8000:~# opkg search /etc/enigma2/satellites.xml
root@dm8000:~# opkg search /etc/tuxbox/satellites.xml
tuxbox-common - 0.1+svn286-r0

After todays update satellites.xml has been replaced under /etc/tuxbox/ while /etc/enigma2/ stays the same.

Using builtin updater.

opkg search... command returns nothing for me.

opkg search /etc/enigma2/satellites.xml
Exactly this one?

Than there is no reason why this file would get overwritten. Opkg only changes files it knows of.

I have this "problem" for months when i update, did add a line in my restore script to overwrite satellites.xml with my own after updating.

It happens always when i see this:

Enigma1 svn r290 [plindeman] Automatic update of satellites.xml
7 december openpli ‏@openpli

Strange enough its enigma1 stuff but it happens...

And indeed its very irritating when i never used any downloaded settings from 3rd party peeps..

The satellites.xml file is prepared in the enigma1 environment and then it is copied to the oe-environment, in the package tuxbox-common, where it ends up in /etc/tuxbux/satellites.xml. But /etc/enigma2/satellites.xml is never touched, unless it happens to be a link (either symbolic or hard).
