I forgotten the password for my DM 500. Unable to access a lot of things. Is there any way to retrieve it or restart the whole thing?

I wanted to update the sw version. But blocked, when I go into setup.

Pls help.

Thanks in advance...

I am an amateur in these things. Can you give me a more detail way to do this?
Or is there a hard coded restart for the whole system to make it to factory setting?

Factory Reset should reset the box to default settings, but realize you will lose all configuration of the box and you'll be required to reconfigure from scratch...

I think there's a plugin that includes just a password reset for E2 images, but I don't know if they have one for E1 images like your 500...

You can't find it in the image? Have you looked?

menu - setup - system settings - factory reset

I believe, if not look around for it...

I cant access to the setup as there is password lock.
That is why I need to do a hard reset... to reset the whole system deleting the password
or is there other ways?

All I can do now is just see the info at the menu. There is a restart and I tried but its still the same.

I thought you just "forgot" the telnet/ftp password, I didn't realize the setup was locked also. Reflash with DreamUP & the null-modem cable...

You can read it via telnet from box's config file.

May be, that there on E1 was some as Systeminfo utilities and it display it too.

see number in file /etc/tuxbox/enigma/config ... line i:/elitedvb/pins/setuplock=
take this number and put it into window's or linux's calc in hex mode and switch to dec mode. This will your password.

Use filezilla to log in but the password seems wrong. was not able to log in. But manage to use IE to see the DB in web interface.

Using the web interface, I was able to find these folders but there isnt any files to open. And for "/etc/tuxbox/enigma/config" there isnt any paths found. but "root/etc/init.d" is found. there isnt any files in that folder too.

via webif you will not see this file. I do not remember true whole path to this file. I saw on OE1 box (dm600pvr) and on DM500 can be path different. But same file.
Try via filezilla: root and empty password.

If you can't read the contents of the config file, if you can't log into FTP or telnet, & if you're locked out of the menus... You can either live with the box as it is or reflash with DreamUP and the null-modem cable. I don't believe there are any other choices...

flash dump from dreamup can be mounted offline. For enigma1 images it works, I have done it in the past, thow it was impossible to mount jffs2 dump on pc. I had to mount it in ppc emulation with qemu and linux 2.6.9

Better flash new image with dreamup.

There is a plugin called tuxbox commander but i,m not sure if this is available for all images..with this plugin you can see the password in ******* format and all you do is delete all****** and when you login via ftp leave pass blank..

Best to just factory reset or reflash tho unless there is some sort of info you really need?

I cant log into the ftp coz I dont have the password... somehow it is wrong with the default. Then I am unable to see the config file... The password of the menu is forgotten also.... But I can try using all the available passwords since there is only 4 digits... at most is 10 thousand tries... haha...

About the reflash, Do you have the steps to do this in detail? coz I am really an amateur for this... And I really have no idea how to do it.
