Just a warning that many dm500 boxes are locked to prevent people accessing the card sharing info a reflash will destroy all that info

Try the different COM ports (1,2,3,& 4) & if using a USB to Serial adapter, make sure you installed the adapter's drivers...

If you bought a password protected box, chances are you're using it to watch TV illegally, in which case we don't provide support.

If that is not the case, you can flash the box with the images you can find here: http://openpli.org/download/dm500. Unless your DM500 is very old, do not install the "old-framebuffer" version.

Also, before you do, make sure your box is REALLY a DM500, and not some cheap chinese clone box. Chances are it's not going to work, it might even brick your box...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

It's a zip file, so you'll have to unzip it. If you're on Windows, you can just click on the file and the Explorer will open it. It contains a single image file that you need to flash using the procedure in the wiki.

You will not get OpenPLi 3.0. A DM500 is an "old piece of antique", it runs a very basic version of Enigma, which you can't compare to the features on the current hardware. All "generation 1" hardware like the DM500 and the DM7000 have been end of life for years now, so the software is also that old. Don't expect to much of it...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

The "root.cramfs" method described on that page will allow you to flash the image without a cable. But it something goes wrong, you'll still need the cable to bring the box back to life.

If you don't have the password, you can't connect to the box with ftp, so the cable is the only option.

Hi WanWizard,
ok, since the cable is the only option. a few questions:
1. what does the crossover cable means? have to buy it? will a 232 connection to usb works? [crossover or null modem cable (where pins 2 & 3 in the cable are crossed over on one end) ]
2. it ask to down these software: which one to download?
Download the latest software here:
Jade Final release for the DM500
Jade Final release for the DM500 (Old Framebuffer)
Jade Final MaxVar for the DM500
Jade Final MaxVar (Old frame buffer)

could you help to explain a bit more for the instruction to use cable until finsh the flash complete?
I just login from the web, i saw there is no any channel list show under TV, that's why when i choose any channel, no response

For more info see: http://en.wikipedia....iki/Null_modem.

Some USB-to-Serial devices seem to work fine, other give problems. I have no experience with them (I use an old 486 laptop for this purpose) so I can't give you any advice.

I've already gave you the link to the downloads, which is on the homepage of this website: http://openpli.org/download/dm500/. The Jade releases are from years ago, and no longer online. Since the DM500 is off the market since a few years, the wiki isn't updated anymore.

DreamUp works pretty simple.

You connect your PC to the box using the null-model cable. Make sure the box is switched off. Then you start DreamUp. It is now waiting for a connection. Now start the box. DreamUp will tell you it has found the box. Select the image you want to flash (the one you have downloaded and unzipped), and flashing starts. Once finished it tells you do disconnect the cable and restart the box. Job done.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Depends on what your requirements are.

If your looking for a simple single-tuner box, look at a MaxDigital XP-1000, or an Xtrend ET-4000. Or perhaps a VU+Solo, but that's lower on my list due to crap support from the manufacturer.

The XP is the cheapest, for around 150 euro.
