Sure, if you have the time and interest... Trust me, I do not have the time. Our second son has just been borne and... well... not easy...

Also, my professional interests are completely incompatible with this.

It's a hobby for me and I do what and when I can do, that's all...

<span style='font-family: comic sans ms,cursive'>"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-incurred immaturity. It's a hobby for me and I do what and when I can do, that's all...

But then it is not a hobby.

Let wiki explain what a hobby is. I only highlighted one part that should give a more insight about:

A hobby is a regular activity that is done for pleasure, typically, during one's leisure time. Hobbies can include: collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, and playing sports, along with many more examples. By continually participating in a particular hobby, one can acquire substantial skill and knowledge in that area.

In my opinion you are attracted by the shiny new boxes - and fall into the category of consumerism - not hobbyist.

Too bad - my role here as a speaker is complete. May the Force be with you :D

Sorry, in advance - but I am now going to "return the favour"... with a bit of professional interest, as it were... :D I hope you're big enough to get, since you are so free to give... ;)

You are rather quick, as an old gun-slinger, so I must now teach you an even older art (once again), of doing things with some caution and consideration, as this is my profession... :D ):

By continually participating in a particular hobby, one can acquire substantial skill and knowledge in that area.

You conveniently missed "can", which is not the same as "must" and therefore it is not automatically followed by "if you fail to do the same as me you are less worthy"...  Bah!

This is quite usual in the hobby, though: immaturity, whereby anyone who is somehow not knowing or not being able to do the same as me - is a "lamer"...  Poor you... There is no bigger "lamer" self-aggrandising nonsense on the planet than that, something we usually call "ego-tripping"... :D

FYI, for me this has nothing to do with shiny boxes, from the start - but fulfilling the need for information, education, culture, also that of additional motivation and then entertainment. You are speaking to somebody who knows a thing or three about alienation and Critical Theory... But don't let that stop you... :D

OK, now I'm done, too... :D

This explains it much better...and funny for the audience.

scrat_labeled.jpg

You see, by giving such a big "speech" about your wannabe passion it proves exactly the character you try to hide and portray the opposite.

You said your reasoning with your own words...you are not looking for the hobby aspect..but for the quick fix...

Come on gorsky you are not trying enough...

It`s not nice to peel off someone character after watching him closely.

Not nice for the subject..but a good slap in wrist and turn his head around to wake up.

Maybe he is not going to fall...

Blackhole has an Enigma2 image too. On top of the closed source (i.e. binary only) image from DMM. Doesn't say anything...

The old e2 image is old code and worst written.

Too much work to clean code and port into public gits.

But Black Hole have switched to open source for the new projects.

So Black Pole is open source

and so Black Hole PrismCube will be open source and all the gits availables.

If it were up to me we would do the same. So I could put a simple rock-solid box in the garage with all tuners and storage, and use light-weight clients in the different rooms to pull the stream in I want to view. That would also solve the sharing and upcoming CI issue. Only one box that needs to receive and decode...

You are describing MythTV :)

In terms of architecture, it's quite similar, yes. But on purpose build STB hardware, instead of power-guzzling standard "PC" hardware...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.
