In terms of architecture, it's quite similar, yes. But on purpose build STB hardware, instead of power-guzzling standard "PC" hardware...
True; but I always loved the architecture of a front-end/back-end setup. I'm currently using a RPi with OpenElec to get some (limited) access to my Enigma2 box. Works like a charm.

Bottom line in this particular case is...marusys wants to feel the void created by DMM closing the sources, and they are following similar route - BUT
I am not sure it will pick up so fast because similar HW is flooding the market right now from China - capable of running XBMC from Android.
For users experience opensource remains the best route.

So we're back to the previous discussion: is prismcube closed or not.
But I agree with you: user experience will say it all.
And as I said before: the present PrismCube (not related to the NSA's 'Prism' I hope) is only a first generation box of this kind. And by far not as mature nor as versatile as E2 is nowadays.

Great box for day to day use, only thing i'm missing are the 4 tuners

Hmm, not sure I really understand . 
Having no access to what drives the dvb-part - not talking about drivers who are closed anyway but about the python and the cpp code needed for interface
(this is also closed source as current topic agrees upon) how is that the perfect experience ??
Isn`t this exactly what DMM has done ? closing the main code and leaving only headers with python available ?
How your Prismcube will adapt to the day to day changes ? How are you going to enjoy coding in that environment when you are quite limited to do so ?
Opensource means power to the end user. These companies are now selling something more closed then open...
One can buy a $60 tv stick with Android + xbmc and call it a day...

Maybe not two tuners...just search the famous Chinese B2B websites.
Or search the two tuner product you find with TBS. There are plenty examples available.

There is plenty that those generic xmbc boxes can't do, that will become relevant in the future. Trust me, you are going to need proper DVB hardware.

Unless you can tell the future, I don`t see any reason to change what is working now.
Currently everything is working except some things which are not common anyway. As a user, you will be buying in the promise the future
holds great risks and you need to prepare for that...seems to me as a marketing then anything else.

Yes, was referring to prismcube. Not really interested either. What is interesting for me is the implementation - I do see the reason why they are keeping it closed source,
however I cannot buy the idea that if it is closed or well guarded - it is also functioning as I am expecting. Many dreamboxes were sold just because
we had the right to change some of the functionality.

Had the Prismcube for a few days in order to review it for a Greek magazine. It works, but what you really get is a bad performing XBMC (for example 3d effects are not smooth, greek subtitles in movies don't work, artwork is slow etc etc) and an average performing DVB receiver (for example I couldn't use my stored positions of my VBOX Diseqc 1.2 , I couldn't setup committed -> uncommitted sequence order and many more issues). As it is, I can't recommend it to anyone. It's not a completely bad product, it just needs more work and maybe it is a bit underpowered for XBMC.

I checked E2BMC and it seems is the same hardware (NXP STB platfom A9 Cortex). Same limitations would apply there I guess, bad XBMC performance. As for E2, if it is not Broadcom, then it's a big risk.
I've also seen Hypercube, it's not XBMC STB, it is Android 2.x and performs very bad.
