May be, somebody could tell me, how solving it (if it is possible):

- when is activated there on some box cifs connection to synology NAS (DS106j, DS210), synology hdd never goes to hibernation. When I deactivate it and restart gui, hibernation begins works well.

tried add into smb.conf on box:

   disable netbios = yes
   smb ports = 445

now synology goes to hibernate well, but after several seconds it waking up again.

I tried kill nmbd process, no success. I tried kill both: smbd, nmbd , no success. Only helps if box is in deep standby.

Autofs could potentially fix this, by breaking connections when they're not in use for a while.

Everything you need is in the feed. I never really got it to work though, configuration is horrific...

it seems, helps there in smb.conf file add only line:

disable netbios = yes

It seems, still something from boxes waking-up the synology stations... With  "disable netbios = yes" it is better, but not well.

If you manually unmount the cifs shares, does that stop the wake-ups? If so, then autofs is really what you need here.

I will try it. I had to go to work. But before it I known, that this problem is still with XP1000 only and not with DM800SE (in both is disabled netbios now).

Edit: same on all boxes

Where I can find something about it ? Manual umount does stop wake-ups.

for XP1000 it seems, it works

opkg install autofs

then add into file /etc/auto.master

line for my directory, where it will be mounted:

/media/synology /etc/auto.synology

then create file auto.synology there in /etc with lines:

video1 -fstype=cifs,username=dream,password=dreambox,noatime,noserverino,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlmv2 ://192.168.1.99/video
music1 -fstype=cifs,username=dream,password=dreambox,noatime,noserverino,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlmv2 ://192.168.1.99/music
video2 -fstype=cifs,username=dream,password=dreambox,noatime,noserverino,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlmv2 ://192.168.1.199/video

then restart autofs  ( little bug -  autofs restart did not works, must be used stop/start):

/etc/init.d/autofs stop

/etc/init.d/autofs start

and there in /media/synology are directories:

music1

video1

video2

and  - it seems, when are this server unused - hdd's are in hibernation still.

EDIT: same for DM800SE. There must be installed kernel-module-autofs4 too.

there is only one little problem.

/etc/init.d/autofs has several little bugs and cannot runs autofs after restart/reboot, because /etc/init.d/autofs called without parameter is created as for commandline => display help only, does not run start.

For running without parameter is better use it as "reload" (with hidden result) and then display help.

This cosmetics fixed /etc/init.d/autofs must be used for restart gui, when user changed some auto.xxx files.

PS: on Vu+ ultimo works well too, install same as for XP1000.

I am using PBNIGMA where autofs is disabled and all is done via Device Manager.

I once had Synology go to sleep, for a while but now, again, it is working overtime...

Any chance of breaking this down "more slowly" for us non-IT people, please?

Thanx!

Why would I do that if it doesn't work properly?

Btw, I use NFS from my sat TV boxes...

Laptops use CIFS, I presume.

P.S. Sure, I activated CIFS in DS201j, too...
