So, now I do not need to flash the box, I can just go to software update, and everything will be fine?

No ,you have to flash.

There is a difference between update and flashing the box.

Flashing means downloading the .nfi file and flash it while the box is in stop mode.

Yes, I know how to flash it, I've done it so many times. But I do not want to loose all the plugins and install them again, please just tell me is there going to be possible just to update the software just from my box DM 8000, like it was till know. I do not want to flash it, just want to update the software???

Don't you use autobackup ?

All the plugins from the feed (and on the feed)and the settings will be restored,no problem.

Hey Meega, I have the plugin autobackup but I was thinking that only backups channel settings, not the all plugins installed. Do I need something different maybe?

And one more question: afterf I flash it, what to do next time, let's say tomorrow when the new update is available, just to update the software from my box right?

And why are you not answering his original question ?

I was so friendly and flashed an image from 16.04 on my 8k and did and upgrade which now runs smootly and the box boots with latest drivers and kernel.

But off course it has then still a jffs2 based root filesystem.

I then installed latest dFlash, changed backup tool from mkfs.jffs2 to mkfs.ubifs and did a backup.

The resulting nfi was flashed - and voiala - I have ubifs and all things my image had before the upgrade.

So no, there is no real need to flash a fresh image just to get ubifs anymore now that the loader ipk was fixed.

Make sure that in autobackup the option "create autoinstall" is enabled.

Then your plugins will be installed as well.

Tomorrow (after flash today ) you can update from the box.

Is there a way to flash remotely from ssh (I mean a way to have the DM8k in a flashable status claiming an IP from the Wifi that I could completely open for this purpose) ?

And also, is there a way from ssh to actually do the backup (it's set to manual) ?

Also, is there a way to have warnings with opkg upgrade ?

  • nfiwrite (coming to a cinema near you tomorrow)
  • dFlash gives you a dbackup.sh which you can also start in telnet
  • opkg verbosity=0...4

You only have to flash the bootloader.
