Hi,

I would like to get my RTL2832 back at work....

Please let us know wich ETxxxx image to choose(date?) before the Kernel 3.8.7 update.

Unfortunatly, I have not kept any image backup...

Thanks

It would not work, because you will not be able to install the kernel modules for your TV tuner. You need a working backup complete with all the drivers for your devices in order to successfully go back to a previous version. No backup, no party

SO...I suppose we have to stay with this bugged kernel then wait for the magic update that fix the issue....

Very interesting findings.

Please note that I compiled a 3.8 kernel for i386, applied the same driver patches and everything works fine, including dvb-usb and em28xx devices. So it's a MIPS related issue (given that the Xtrend drivers are not the cause).

I also tried to backport the em28xx driver to the version that was working in kernel 3.6, but the crashes are still there. The Realtek driver is exactly the same, and there has been no change in the dvb-usb framework between 3.6 and 3.8. The driver is surely doing something suspicious during init, but it works on x86 and used to work also on MIPS with the 3.6 kernel, so I don't think this is the cause.

All drivers are crashing during initialization, either trying to access a sub-dev connected through I2C (em28xx) or trying to start a swfilter (rtl2832).

I found a few recent bugfixes related to memory corruption/bad memory mapping on MIPS:

http://www.linux-mip...5/msg00048.html

http://patchwork.lin...org/patch/4994/

http://patchwork.lin...org/patch/4995/

I don't know if this may help...

there is news on dvb-usb 290e/em28xx, there is the possibility to use it. I would hate to throw it because, if I remember correctly, I paid it about € 80,00.

Obviously I can wait for the change. Now I loaded a backup of a firmware of the end of April when everything was still working.

Thanks for your help, Mauro

@guirigui can you post dmesg to see what goes from with your rtl2832 stick

To confirm the driver works good on kernel 3.8.7 for Terratec Cinergy T Stick Black devices

kernel-module-dvb-usb-rtl28xxu installed and here the dmesg output

usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using ehci-brcm

hello to all
Today I put the last pli on my box, and dtt a867 key does not work.
I used this method:

opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-af9035
opkg install kernel-module-af9033
opkg install kernel-module-mxl5007t

I copied the files in lib / firmware  dvb-usb-af9035-02.fw

and chmod +r /lib/firmware/*

?????????????

I installed xtalliance, same method, the a867 works well
I do not understand why.

probably you have also the old not-working kernel module installed:

opkg remove kernel-module-dvb-usb-a867

gennar1 thanks for the reply, but I have installed a new pli.
I do not think that installing the PLI, you install the old kernel module-dvb-usb-a867

Please let me know how to copy under DCC-E2 150 the dmesg...
I have tried the "copy" fonction w.o. any success..

Meanwhile, I could oberve that 4 ports USB hub is detected...but there are 3 physical ports only.
The USB storage, in fact one Emtech 32gbyte dongle(EXT4 formatted), is correctly detected in port 3.
Then in port 4 one USB device is detected and that's it..no report regarding the rtl2832 device in question.

Regarding dmesg, you can transfer the /var/log/messages file to your pc. It's quite the same.

With tomorrow update, the driver dvb-usb-rtl28xxu for Realtek USB tuners will support the devices with a Rafael Micro R820T tuner.

You can switch to the new driver with this commands:

opkg remove kernel-module-dvb-usb-rtl2832
opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-rtl28xxu

The other required kernel modules will be installed automatically. No firmware is required.

Connect the stick in the USB port, reboot the box and you should be ready to go.

Or you may run from a telnet terminal:

dmesg > /tmp/dmesg_log.txt

and then ftp the file /tmp/dmesg_log.txt to your PC using your favourite ftp tool.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I have installed this morning the 20130602 ET6000 image

Just scan Astra 19.2 then go to the packet list for installing the rtl2832xxu..

After reboot then switch .Off/On the power as I am use to do so that the dongle be recognized

No success...tested with 2 dongle Twintech UT30 & UT40 that used to work without any issue in the past
tested several USB ports just in case off...

Thanks to Gennar1 recommandation, here attached the dmesg log txt.

I think this is your dvb-usb stick: usb 2-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 3 using ehci-brcm

It seems no driver recognize your dvb-usb.

Are you sure you installed the driver?

Can you check what lsusb say.

Yes, please post your lsusb.

AFAIK, the Twintech UT30 should be 1B80:D393 which is supported by the driver.

But maybe you have a different model.

The UT40 should be 1B80:D3A4 which is not covered by the driver ATM, but since it uses the FC0013 tuner probably we just need to put the ID in the driver to get it working.

No, sorry.

The em28xx driver is for USB devices produced by Empia.

The rtl28xxu driver is for USB devices produced by Realtek.

They are completely different beasts :P
