Here in Brazil, we have the refference the site: http://www.portalbsd...o/satelites.php (whith daily channel updates) and the structure is based on http://satellites-xml.eu.

 

How to convert the pli satellites.xml? Or there are any software to create the custom file?

Hi Frank, 

 

I use the site PortalEDS to generate the xml.

 

 

 

It generates files satellites 70W, 61W and 43W separated.

I edit, retreat TP's Band C and with the satellites in just one file.

PortalEDS is more updated.

 

Example: There have updates often on 43W in February, we are in May and still have not updated the frequencies in Lyngsat.

Eric, I think the problem is who will send the updates. And I don't know how/where they get the informations.

The initial problem was that I thought the way the file was generated, but it is because I was opening with internet explorer, then the sequence was reversed, starting with "transponder modulation" and the result was not correct. But opening the dcc or notepad + + sequence is the same file openpli ("transponder frequency").

Sorry for the confusion.

The two sites: portaleds and brasilsat generate files that can be edited by dcc. Now I will make my own satellites.xml.

Anyway to answer your original question, if you put the satellites.xml file in /etc/enigma2, it will not get overwritten by updates.

I have a question to all, especially those who need to make every effort to get a signal for fringe reception.

When I look at KingOfSat, eg. 28.2E satellite position, I see the following:

Eutelsat 28A 	28.56°E 
Eutelsat 28B 	28.5°E 	
Astra 2A 	28.26°E 
Astra 1N 	28.24°E 
Astra 2F 	28.2°E 
Astra 2D 	28.04°E

It means that the distance between the extreme satellites is more than 0.5 degree.
But in satellites.xml file it is all at 28.2E, which means that I would need to fine-tune my rotor by 3-4 steps to impropve reception for Eutelsat 28A/B satelites.

This is not the only satellite with such issue but this one is very visible. There are some smaller distances at 16E, 0.8W or 7W.

My question is for all of us to consider advantages and disadvantages of separating these satellite positions - this is only necessary for fringe reception. Normally, of course, 0.2-0.5 deg should not make much of a difference.

Is such a custom satellites.xml file possible? It would also require changes to rytec.channels.xml to be able to get EPG. What other consequences would it have?

You can make your own satellites.xml and put it in /etc/enigma2 and then that one will be used and it won't get overwritten by updates.

Yes, but would it have any other side effects in addition to losing XMLTV EPG?

Becasue normally we use our own custom satellites.xml file to remove unwanted satellites and not to split existing ones or add extra ones.

At least you would need to rescan all your services and you would lose all your favourites. And once again if any of "fine-tune" positions change.

If it is for fringe reception you shouldn't be using a motor for 28E as the Astra cluster are skewed 7.5º off the motorised arc. And also there is an 8º skew difference between E28A and the SES satellites. This is much more of a problem than a few tenths of a degree.

Also it doesn't make sense to treat as different positions because the NIT treats them as one. That means doing a network search on any 28E transponder will return all transponders on the cluster.

Yes. Normally geosats have the electrical vector of the vertically polarised transmission parallel with the polar access of the Earth... but Astra satellites have the electrical vector rotated 7.5º counterclockwise (looking towards the Earth). That means on a correctly set up motorised dish the skew is never correct for an Astra satellite.

Do you know why that is? I already noticed that the skew for the A28E and the E28E is different. That's not quite optimal for all of those with the small Sky dish?!

That way a fixed dish can have a vertical position (both dish and LNB), so on the intended location no skew is needed.

According to SES, "To reduce the polarisation offset angle to a minimum at reception sites in the centre of the ASTRA footprints, a 7.5º pre-set angle is maintained for all ASTRA satellites".

Yeah exactly what SatKiekerd says. It's a shame Eutelsat doesn't follow then.

 

BTW indeed this explains the skew of my LNB's, as the Astra's are almost always more or less straight up.
