Morning all, the restart cam command is no longer working. Something changed in the last few day's updates and broke it. Tried image's softcamsetup and also the third party plugin, both not responding.

Do you know the last day it was working? And what day's image/update your were running then?

Its been like this for ages..A few threads on it here but nothing done about it..Sometimes it works,sometimes it doesnt...IE when u are running mgcamd and you want to change cam to cccam it stays on mgcamd until you fully reboot the box..Hope something can be found...

I think that's a problem with mgcamd. With enigma2 you're not supposed to change cams all of the time because it can do multiple recordings (+ viewing) at the same time. We're not receiving any comparable complaints about cccam.

When you start cams not the correct way via the console (telnet/putty/ssh) then indeed you cannot restart an emu... So I suggest you did start the emu via the console in the first place...

 

To start correctly an emu via the console you should use

 

/etc/init.d/softcam start

May i ask then what is the point in having a softcam/Ci when you cannot start what cam you want and when you want it? the universal softcam manager in glass utility,stop's the cam first for you and then starts then one you have selected,why does softcam/CI not work this way please?

You can define and start whatever softcam you want, that is absolutely no issue.

 

The only requirement is that the softcam uses the correct setup, so it can be stopped and started. PLi already had this system in the very early Enigma cdk images.

 

The point being made here is that with Enigma2's architecture, it's pointless having the option to dynamically switch softcams.

I use mgcamd for one certain provider and cccam for all others so for me its important to be able to switch cams when i need to..Is there another script i need or something?

If you install mgcamd from the feeds the scripts should be ok. If that's the wrong version, just replace the binary after you installed it.

Hi guys, the softcam is from the feeds, i use only mgcamd (not switching) and i have never used telnet to restart it. It was working fine until maybe 10 days ago.

In that case, can you be more specific about "how" and "what" doesn't work? AFAIK none of the team members use mgcamd, as cccam works fine for us.

Well when i need to restart i choose restart option and it wont restart (dont know how to tell you) the connection dos not interupt and reconnect. Also when i used "some other parameters" with mgcamd and needed to restart it in order to load, it dodnt so i had to reboot the box in order for the "new parameters" to connect.

Okay that means the "restarting doesn't work".

 

Are you always using this mechanism and never start mgcamd from the command line (telnet etc.)?

yes as above always use softcam/Ci to restart any softcam,but it doesnt restart or start without complete reboot......Hope you can find a solition.

It also seems to happen with the standard scripts (that are installed when you install the cam from the feed.

I think the problem is that mgcamd doesn't get stopped ("killed") properly. One reason could be that the start script doesn't give mgcamd enough time to stop, another reason could be that mgcamd simply won't stop upon a stop signal ("kill"). I suspect the latter because CCcam doesn't show this behaviour.
