Using a DM800SE, in one of the latest OpenPLi images, there are only four resolutions in the HDMI-PC list. Is there a way to add a custom resolution using FTP, for example 1680x1050? I couldn't find a plugin to make it work.

Also the refresh rate isn't selectable in the HDMI-PC sub-settings.

Thanks.

You can only select the resolutions the hardware supports. I've never seen an STB that supports 1680x1050, which afaik is not a video format at all...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Hmm, but a video standard like 720p is nothing more than a resolution and refresh rate. I thought digital signals would be fiexible with that, at least formats like 800x600 and 1366x768 are in the list. Maybe it is limited by the drivers, but no hardware support..

It isn't any different then with a PC. The resolutions you can choose are limited by the resolutions your video card has on offer.

Difference is that the average PC GPU lists dozens, to support all the different formats of PC screens out there. This is not needed with an STB, which is connected to a TV with a limited choice...

Really, I thought that a PC GPU can output a custom pixel-precise resolution within it's max: http://hardforum.com...d.php?t=1605511 .

Anyhow, this time it is connected to a monitor, too bad the hardware lacks support.

Depends on the GPU.

My VU+Duo for example reports this:

root@vuduo:~# cat /proc/stb/video/videomode_choices
pal ntsc 480i 576i 1080i 1080p 720p 480p 1080i50 1080p24 1080p25 1080p30 720p24 720p50 576p

so all typical TV type resolutions...

The "correct" thing to do would be that the drivers inquire the monitor about its supported ranges, and automatically pick the mode the monitor likes best. Probably the DMM drivers just return a pre-programmed set of resolutions and don't negotiate anything.

I am not sure whether the hardware of a stb can support an arbitrary combination of output settings, I do know a VGA card can in fact do that, indeed, although windows drivers usually don't allow you to do so, but using X you can define any mode (within specs, of course).

But even then, the modes need to be programmed by the drivers. If the drivers only support a fixed set of x resolutions, that's all you'll get, even though the hardware might be able to support more. Yes, it's a shame indeed.

Alright, don't think there is another STB which does this well. Drivers are never open source from the manufacturer I think?
