Hello!

 

I have successfully installed XFS kernel mode and can start this with

modprobe xfs

 

It is confirmed that XFS kernel mode is running

lsmod | grep xfs

xfs                   572629  0

exportfs                3976  1 xfs

 

Question:

Where can I get the toolset "xfsprogs" compiled for VU+ as an ipk package?

In case it's not available, how can I compile this package from its source code?

Be careful with XFS!!!

 

In another forum there were some users (with XTREND boxes) which had big problems with XFS.

If you want to use it, I would suggest to fill the disk with not very important data and then to test it for some days/weeks...

I have been using XFS on a 1 TB hdd in a DM8000 without any problems for the last 6 months.

XFS has been loaded as a module, not compiled into the kernel from PLI.

 

I have not lost any recordings or noticed any freezes or stuttering.

I have heard that dreamboxes uses xfs.

I can only say, that 2 users had this problem with >=1TB disks. I also couldn't believe that there's a problem with it. But you can see the error messages in the mentioned thread.
Perhaps it's kernel related. Vu uses other kernel than xtrend so you'll perhaps don't get that problems.

I checked the "list" of available programs for my platform (VU+ Solo2, VTi 5.1), but didn't get the same result as you.
Based on your reply, I can see that you run ET 9x00, and I assume that your image includes a feed that provides the xfs-packages.

Could you check the feed providing the xfs-packages, or do you know if the packages are compiled for VU+ with VTi 5.1?

More advantages than disadvantages compared to EXT4 (http://www.mythtv.or.../XFS_Filesystem).

Well, I hoped the IPK files could be provided by someone using OpenPLI on VU+ platform.
Are you aware of a location (server) where the packages are available for download?

You can only download it, if you know exactly the name of the package and I don't know it (name depends on box type and I have no solo2).

 

But I don't recommend to use the openpli package. It might need other dependencies, other lib versions,... and if there are problems (perhaps after weeks) all your data might be lost...

Run mkfs.xfs to format your HDD.

Restore your Vti settings.

 

Your HDD should still be xfs and usable under Vti.

Hi,
in the meantime I have managed to mount a XFS partition that I have formatted connected to a desktop PC. This ensures that disk alignment is correct.

What is the PLI repository?
I may add this to the VIi image and install programs from this repository.
