Unless this is a model that has been around for ages, it won't work on a dm800. Simply because it has a kernel from five years ago and that's because DMM refuses to release drivers for newer kernels.
Anyway, if you want a multi-tuner receiver, the dm800 isn't quite the best hardware to do that, better use a native multi-tuner receiver.

Blame DMM...
On the other hand, the dm800 was never meant to be used with extra tuners...

Do not blame anybody. I think the second statement is not completely accurate.
dm800 was the first box to be used with usbtuners...
User only needs to incorporate needed changes in openpli 2.1 v4linux sources and build locally for his own use.

Some time after the dm800 was released, DMM released the dm8000 which can hold four tuners. Maybe a bit too much for most users, but it could be seen as a "hint" from dmm. The dm8000 has the power to handle four tuners, the dm800 barely. Besides that, a usb tuner uses much more resources than a built-in tuner.Do not blame anybody. I think the second statement is not completely accurate.

So I never understand why so many people bought a dm800 and immediately bought a DVB-C or DVB-T stick with it. For some years there have been alternatives at reasonable prices that have been designed for multi-tuner use from the start, some of them with replacable tuners.

Before I answer that, I would like to explain a bit of the background. I am using cable internet for two months now. Along with the internet connectivity comes a basic package of DVB-C channels. I never watch these! They're only meant as backup for extreme weather conditions when satellite reception is completely gone (which is quite rare with a wave frontier t90). So it's more for fun than "production", if it works, great, if it doesn't, touch luck. It seems to work though. If it ever stops working, I'll have no problem chucking the stick in the bin.
Also I have been doubting wether to use it on the dm8000 (main viewing box) or on a seperate receiver (xp). The dm8000 has quite an old kernel, so many sticks won't work. The xp has a new kernel, so it's better suited for dvb sticks. So I decided to go for a sundtek, because it doesn't need specific kernel support. If I had made my mind up to go for the xp from the start, I'd probably have bought a "proper" stick or maybe even a proper DVB-C tuner for the dm8000.
But in the end, I don't really care about DVB-C anyway.

For boxes with older kernels, yes. For boxes with up-to-date kernels, there are some sticks that are supported really well, which I would definitely recommend.

The sundtek doesn't use a driver. It comes with an installer that installs an application (closed source) that communicates between the stick (using low-level USB access) and a vtuner. No drivers involved.
There may be other "proper" wlan sticks usable for dm800, but you need to be very careful if they're supported on a linux 2.6.18 kernel.

Thanks. I leave all at that and maybe I'll buy Amiko Alien 2.
