Hi,

I noticed that nowadays the subtitles in the subtitle selection screen are ordered differently than they used to be. A year ago or so DVB subtitles were always on top. Now there is always a txt subtitle on top but there can also be another txt subtitle below the dvb subtitle like just now on ITV HD where I have the order

  • 888 teletext English
  • 924 DVB      English
  • 8ee teletext

Since I usually take the DVB subtitles I'd like to have them back on top. Is there a way to do that?

I guess the order is determined by satellite provider and is not changed by the image.

But maybe someone else knows better.

Hm, I doubt that since the change by the provider would have coincided with my update. Also, more than one program family is affected (ITV, Channel 4 group, Channel 5 group and BBC). Of course the are all provided by freesat or BSkyB for that matter.

I think this new behaviour has been introduced by the patch "iSubtitleOutput: move python stuff into swig wrappers". Anyway, I reversed the list in AudioSelection.py. Now I have dvb subtitles first again in 99% of the cases.

Which I would find extremely annoying, text subtitles render a lot better, and rendering can be tuned (a lot of people don't like the different colours used in the UK for example).

DVB subtitles are images, and therefore usually crap to watch.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Okay, let's agree to disagree. I prefer dvb subtitles because they are coloured. So you know who's taking. :-) OTOH I noticed that the txt subtitles are sometimes notspacedcorrectlysoitisdifficulttoreadthem. Especially on 5 and co.

Teletekst subtitles can also be colored... that is configurable... In adition you also have the ability to autmatically select subtitles.

Oh thanks, I didn't know that there can be more than one color simultaneously. But they are sometime hard to read because of missing background. DVB subtitle background transparity can be adjusted.

What does automatic selection mean? if I switch them on on a certain channel/recording they stay switched on until I switch them off. Regardless of changing the channel/stopping the playback.

All-white or coloured is indeed a setting. I don't remember what the default is. And these days text subtitles are rendered with a black outline to improve visibility, without the need for an all-black background.

Okay, I am convinced. txt subtitles are nice. But on BBC HD dvb subtitles might still look better.
