I don't think anyone in the team still has an Enigma1 box operational, so finding this issue, and solving it, will be difficult. According to the source, development stopped sometime 2009. I don't know where you are located, but around here providers are busy replacing all SD channels by MPEG-4 versions, for which you need a DVB-S2 tuner.

I would not spend a single penny on DMM hardware, that company is all but dead at the moment (and what is still out there is hugely overpriced). Also be careful not to buy any clone hardware. If you want a low-budget single tuner box, I would go for a MaxDigital XP1000 at the moment.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

As a last test, can you add this to /etc/hosts on your box:

85.17.146.12 downloads.pli-images.org

perhaps one of the download mirrors is out of sync, this ensures you hit the server that you tried to do the manual download from...

sadly no difference. However I use to buy dreambox all the time, I was thinking quality and the like was good. Apparently this is out of the scope ? What do you suggest then now ? what are the different models (mutli, mono, etc...) i should consider ?

It's like with PC's.  You have identical copies (one-to-one copy of the entire design, in possibly a different casing), which are referred to as clone boxes. Quality is usually inferior, as they cut corners to lower the price and still have maximum profit. And you have new designs that are compatible on the software level (like they used to say a PC is IBM-compatible, so it could run DOS or Windows).

Enigma2 is quite popular and well known, and every manufacturer tries to steal a bit of the market. With the advantage that they don't have to invest is software, it's freely available.  Enigma2 doesn't really have any hardware dependencies, it requires a DVBAPI (v5 I think at the moment) compliant box that can run OpenEmbedded, not much more. The main reason there is no Enigma image for a particular box is usually due to lack of support for either one.

Since supporting a hardware platform costs money and time (sometimes lots of it), we only support a limited number of them. But since we're open, we encourage others to create a "Based on OpenPLi" for other platforms.

In terms of hardware selection, you need to look at your requirements. How many tuners? Which type? Any mix of tuner types required?

I will say DVB-S is a minimum, if I can have one with two DVB-S tuners and 1 DVD-C (cable?) it may be perfect. Any suggestion. Vu+ seems sexy but I have no clue of the good namews and the bad names nowadays. So clearly your advise will be not to purchase dreambox at the very moment ?

Suggestions will be a definitive plus.

thanks

If you don't have any DVB-S2 requirement, I've got a brand-new 7025+ dual tuner for sale, still in the box. ;)

Dreambox is nearly dead. If I listen to our sponsors, none of them have sold a Dreambox in months. Another issue is that they've gone closed-source, which means that it will become harder for us to keep on supporting them.

All hardware these days support DVB-S2, everything is becoming MPEG4, SD or HD. If you want three tuners, I think the only options at the moment are the VU+ Ultimo or the VU+ Duo2. My personal favorites at the moment are the XTrend ET9x00 (dual-S2) and the MaxDigital XP1000 (single-S2), but they are both fixed tuner boxes, so no cable.

thanks WanWizard, I beleive there is no real point for me spending time on that old box then. I understand well that the 7200 doesn't do MPEG4 ?

I have reviewed the box, the VU+ looks quite sexy, any reason (technical, pratical, ...) why you prefer the xtrend before I am getting about spending money.

thanks...really nice support

Afaik, the 9500 has modular (swappable) tuners and more memory. Other then that, they are identical.

do you have a strong preference for the Xtreng vs Vu+. The Vu+ looks quite sexy but are there some quality or technical glitches guiding your choices ?

Xtrend may have better drivers but quality is lacking on cheap boxes. Few days ago my second et5000 broke. Not happy at all!!
