Hi,

I'm trying to use my WINTV Mini Stick (Siano driver 1.0r5) with OpenPli based image installed on a DM800se.

I'm able to scan channels but whenever I try to zap to any channel, I get a "Tune failed" error.

I've seen similar issue in a few forum but without any resolution and it's unclear to me if the issue deals with the driver of the dvt-t usb module.

Does anybody knows if there is way to resolve the issue ?

Thanks,

Francois

What anntena do you use? Indor, or outdor anntena?

Do you get an error on dmesg?

Can you post dmesg after reboot of the box? (and after you are trying to tune to a channel).

You run dmesg command with telnet (or ssh).

On the other hand I'm quite curious which 'based on OpenPLi' image you use.
If you use a 'based on OpenPLi' image it's likely that you have a clone.
In that case I'm afraid the OpenPLi board isn't the right place, as we do not support clones.

Thanks all for your answer! I have an original dm800se with SatdreamGr (openpli based with Dd+ fix). The signal is strong and terrestrial.xml is fine (i use the same with my dm7020 and get no issue). I will post result of dmesg.

Thanks again!

Francois

This problem is occuring also with original OpenPli image (latest with all updates).
Here's the output from dmesg (thanks Athoik, I think this explains the "tune failed").

[   42.510000] DVB: registering adapter 1 frontend 0 (Siano Mobile Digital MDTV Receiver)...
[   42.525000] usbcore: registered new interface driver smsusb
...
[  173.344000] DVB: adapter 1 frontend 0 frequency 4294967295 out of range (44250000..867250000)
[  178.341000] DVB: adapter 1 frontend 0 frequency 4294967295 out of range (44250000..867250000)
[  183.345000] DVB: adapter 1 frontend 0 frequency 4294967295 out of range (44250000..867250000)
...
I tried to use the XML from Maigais (I can scan channel but get the same "tune failed" error).
Not sure what I can do now.

Thanks again,

Francois

There are some instructions here, hope to apply on your case.

I finally got it to work in Ubuntu 10.04 (2.6.32-25). Here is the way I proceeded:

- following http://ubuconf.buron...page-wintv.html (note this is based on http://contribs.mart...SD-siano/README that also tells you how to scan for channels, watch them,...) :
* Download http://www.wintvcd.c..._28027_WHQL.zip (available from www.hauppauge.co.uk>support>wintv_ministick_(120xxx) )
* Extract driver17/hcw17dvb.1b0
* Rename it sms1xxx-hcw-55xxx-dvbt-02.fw
* Copy it in /lib/firmware/

- Plug in your device, "dmesg | tail" gives something similar to:
[ 3921.000072] usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
[ 3921.151237] usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 3921.211080] usb 2-2: firmware: requesting sms1xxx-hcw-55xxx-dvbt-02.fw
[ 3921.800072] smscore_set_device_mode: firmware download success: sms1xxx-hcw-55xxx-dvbt-02.fw
[ 3921.846109] DVB: registering new adapter (Hauppauge WinTV MiniStick)
[ 3921.847707] DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (Siano Mobile Digital MDTV Receiver)...
[ 3921.848958] usbcore: registered new interface driver smsusb

If the above applies it means we have wrong firmware.

Tried under XP1000 and USB DVB-T. When is finished manual searching (btw - nothing is founded) and is pressed Green ( = Save), then GSOD:

Unfortunately, I get the same issue after applying the steps from http://ubuntuforums..../t-1061151.html

(I also tried to use latest drivers from Hauppauge without success (driver17/hcw17dvb.1b0 -> sms1xxx-hcw-55xxx-dvbt-02.fw)).

The failing frequency causing the "out of range" error is 4294967295=0xFFFFFFFF=-1

I tried another stick (RTL2832U) but this one is not recognized for some reason.

I'm not sure this stick can even work on OpenPli 4 reading through http://openpli.org/f...proposal/page-5

Anyway, thanks for your help !

François

As we can see there is some problem with Vu and Siano.

Like my problem described at other post.

Dear athoik,
after "opkg upgrade/opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-rtl2832/reboot", I can get my RTL2832U stick (TerraTec Cinergy T USB RC HD) recognized.
lsusb listed it as 0ccd:00d3.
After 3 years waiting for a solution, I can now watch HD channels with sound on my DM800se. I can't believe it!
You can't image how grateful I am. You've been so responsive and helpful !!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH ATHOIK! LONG LIFE TO YOUR TEAM!

Hello,

I've got an WinTV (Siano) DVB-T stick and i am confused of the results.

I have also RTL2838 DVB-T stick, so i shutdown my box, removed the RTL2838 and plug the WinTV.

When i opened the box, the stick was working! Using settings of RTL2838.

Then i scanned using WinTV, scan worked perfectly (channels had programm), but then tune was failing!

Then i swaped sticks again, and plug the RTL2838 stick! Tune was failing again! After scanning, tune is working (also on WinTV).

What is happening? Any idea?

PS. Do you think this commit might related with the error?
[media] siano: Only feed DVB data when there's a feed
Right now, the driver sends DVB data even before tunning. It was noticed that this may lead into some mistakes at DVB decode, as the PIDs from wrong channels may be associated with another frequency, as they may already be inside the PID buffers. So, prevent it by not feeding DVB demux with data while there's no feed or while the device is not tuned.

4294967295 = ffffffff
Looks like different dvb api versions being mixed, userspace expects to tune with dtv properties, but the drivers expect the legacy parameters, or vice versa.
(or the mixup is between the dvb driver and the dvb-core)

Thanks @pieterg.

@Freon, maybe BH images has some fixes backported. Is there a public git/svn/patch in order to see what they change?

I think that BH uses media_build for some drivers.

Looking the changes from 3.2 to 3.3 version i think first change seems important..
Passing DVBv3 parameters to set_frontend is not fun, as the
core doesn't have any way to know if the driver is using the
v3 or v5 parameters. So, rename the callback and add a new
one to allow distinguish between a mixed v3/v5 paramenter call
from a pure v5 call.

After having all frontends to use the new way, the legacy call
can be removed.

The only difference that I see is that BH has most ( If not all ) of the drivers preeinstaled with image.
