Is it possible to add a New Zealand EPG provider from this source “http://epg.org.nz/freeview.xml.gz” ?

Currently my Ultimo DVB-T tuners receive only EIT info (now/next) while my DVB-S tuner receives full 7-day epg.

Thanks in advance,

George

The you gave looks OK for import.

Question: Is this source produced each day? and is it available on a fixed url?

If the answer is yes to both questions, then we only need to provide a link between the data in this file, and the service references of the channel in your box. However the XMLTV import works only on enigma2 boxes. The box you are mentioning does not ring a bell. (or is it a VU+ Ultimo)

The creation of a channels file is not difficult. However if you do not have experience with it, it can be tricky.

Therefore send me a dreamboxedit or dreamset set of files with the channels you want.

See: http://openpli.org/f...g-for-channels/

Thanks Willy, you are a Godsend!

Yes, the site refreshes our local Freeview epg daily from http://epg.org.nz/freeview.xml.gz

It serves a lot of kiwi HTPC users running MythTV, Windows Media Player, OpenElecXBMC, etc.

I recently bought a VU+ Ultimo with three tuners (1xDVB-S; 2xDVB-T) and I've attached some screenshots from both tuners so you understand what I see. The Freeview channels vary slightly depending on whether you are watching satellite or terrestrial. The big plus for me (and why I want a full 7-day epg) is that Freeview HD channels are broadcast free over terrestrial, whereas Freeview satellite is broadcast only in SD unless of course you pay for a Sky subscription which I gave up ages ago.

Hopefully I've given you the correct info attached. If not, please let me know.

Again, thanks for your help.

George

OK.

Have you installed the XMLTV plug-in?

Copy both attached files to /etc/epgimport

Open the EPGimport (via menu apllications) and configure.

Do not forget to selest the NZ source (blue button)

Willy

PS: I propose you keep the channels file yourself updated, since you have all the data available.

The channels file is a normal gzipped file which can be unzipped with most ZIP programs.

Since these are only a few channels, I propose to keep them on your box. It is a very small file.

Thanks Willy, it works brilliantly!

In case others want to use it, I'll list the steps I did to get it working as you quoted a folder that didn't exist, sorry Willy. :P
To get a full 7-day NZ epg working with your DVB-T tuner :
  • Mount a USB stick in Fat32 format, to store your picons and epg data (this is encouraged by all STB forums for better performance).
  • Install the XMLTV-Importer plugin if not already.
  • Copy the attached files above as they are (ie. do not unzip .gz file) to "/etc/xmltvimport" (there is no "/etc/epgimport" folder).
  • Go to Menu>Setup>System>EPG>Settings and ensure all EIT options are set to "no".
  • Within the same window, select "EPG location" and click the left< or right> buttons to select "/media/usb/" then click "Ok".
  • Open XMLTV-Importer plugin to configure, enabling "Daily automatic import" and set an appropriate "Automatic start time" when the STB is not in use. I also enabled it to "Start import after booting up".
  • Press the blue button (Sources) and select "NZ DVB-T XMLTV" then click "Ok".
  • Press the yellow button to do a "Manual" epg import, click "yes" in the following pop up window. Note that you should see the number of events immediately growing,
  • Click "Ok" and "Exit" out of all windows to your tv screen.
  • Click "EPG" to check that the data has populated successfully. If not, just reboot.
  • Enjoy a full 7-day NZ epg!
All credit must go to Willy for responding to my call for help, cheers mate!

Hi George,

I am venturing down this same path for my TiVo replacement which is a VU+ Solo SE V2 with a Dual Terrestrial Tuner and have hit a brick wall with the EPG. I have got as far as complete (7 day) EPG content for 7 channels, but no EPG content for the ones I watch which are: TVNZ 1, TVNZ 2, Three, Prime, Maori & Duke.

I am guessing it is because Freeview changed the name and frequency of their channels and your files are relevant to around 2013.

So, you wouldn't by chance have an updated DVB-T_NZ.channels.xml.gz file would you?

Thanks, Kevin West.

I do not maintain this file. You should do it yourself.

f.i.

1:0:16:578:21:222A:EEEE0000:0:0:0:

You have to change the service reference part: 1:0:16:578:21:222A:EEEE0000:0:0:0:

The new value can be found in your receiver. Or in the webif of your receiver.

In the webif tune the desired channel and press the button Current (or Current channel)

You will see the new reference listed there.

Do this for the channels you want.

If this is to complicated for you, post the result of this action: https://forums.openp...g-for-channels/

(I do not have this info, and cannot get this unless you provide it)

This will give me the info for updating the channels file.

Hi Willy, I have given this a really good go, but I am stuck on finding the correct Channel List address format. I am happy to keep trying, but would appreciate a bit of help. My understanding is that the addresses are located on my VU+ Solo SE V2 in "etc" - "enigma2" - "lamedb" however the address's appear to be missing the first half of the required data.

I have attached the "lamedb" file so you can see what I am referring to. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Willy, just wanted to update you and thank you very much for your help with the above. I have learnt a lot over the last 24 hours and I am pleased to advise that it is all up and running and I can now receive 7 days of Terrestrial EPG in New Zealand.

Thanks again and all the best,

Kevin

Hi Willy

I've got a Vu+ Duo 4k, running Black Hole 3.0.9 and I'm keen to get a Freeview/Sky NZ EPG running on it with a daily update

Are you able to point me to instructions? I've read through this thread but I'm not completely clear on what's needed, but I've found a page with some xml files linked to from it, but I've tried using them as the basis for an EPG but failed to get it to work....due to ignorance on my part

The page is www.matthuisman.nz/2016/10/freeview-nz-xmltv-epg.html

Is there a simple way to set them up?

Apologies if this is exceedingly basic but l've been trying to get the EPG working but linux is all foreign to me.

To import this on an enigma2 machine, you have to make 2 files.

1. A NZ.sources.xml file

<sources>
<sourcecat sourcecatname="NZ XMLTV">

att Huisman NZ EPG

</sources>

2. A NZ.channels.xml file containing the the links between the EPG and the service refs of the different channels.

In order to construct this you need the name under which the EPG is stored in the XMLTV file. So download the EPG file on a PC and open it. Find for each channel this:

    <display-name>1 TVNZ 1</display-name>

On your receiver find the sevice refs for each channel. f.i. for the example here TVNZ 1.

It looks something like this: 1:0:1:1F8:384:13E:820000:0:0:0: (this is for NASA on 13 E which you cannot receive)

Now construct a line like this:

1:0:1:1F8:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

You can add a description behind it to make it human readable (it is just a comment)

1:0:1:1F8:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

Do this for every channel you the EPG imported.

Save these in a file called NZ.channels.xml so it looks like this:

<channels>
channel id="tv.9">1:0:1:1F8:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

channel id="tv.10">1:0:1:1F9:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

</channels>

Save both files to the folder /etc/epgimport/ on your receiver. Fire up EPGimport on your receiver, select your NZ source, and import.

In order to find the service refs, I made a long time ago a vbs script to extract them from the lamedb file.

Unzip the attached and copy the lamedb file from your receiver to the same folder.

Double click on makeref.vbs and a file refs.tx will be created in the format you need for the above procedure.

Thanks for this Willy. I've created the files (your vbs file helped a great deal)

I then copied them to /etc/epgimport as instructed but when I go to EPG Import utility and add sources, it doesn't find them

I can only think that I've either got them in the wrong location or they aren't being parsed due to me having a typo in the xml file(s). I've hunted for typos, but can't see any (not that this means there aren't any).

Can you confirm the location where they are meant to be please?

You are running Black Hole 3.0.9 - I do not have experience with it. So it could be different, but lets hope it is not.

The location for the files is /etc/epgimport/ in OpenPLi and Open-OE images.

Otherwise zip your files, and post them here. I will have a look for errors.

I've found one problem - on file copy, the filenames were being copied to lower case so I suspect the reference to NZ.channels.xml could not be resolved

I've changed all references to consistent case and now when I select source, I get:

NZ XMLTV

    att Huisman NZ EPG

If I click on the att Huisman NZ EPG line I get an "X" in front of it

With or without the "X" enabled, when I import, it gets no events

An example line is

1:0:1:4B0:19:222A:EEEE0000:0:0:0:

All my lines have a service of "EEEE0000", I didn't copy any that use the SkyTV references that look like this: 1_0_16_3E9_2_A9_6400000_0_0_0

I'm only running DVB-T, so I wonder if this line is looking for the DVB-S reference?

I notice that in your post, you have these examples - should lines 3 & 4 begin with "<"?

<channels>
channel id="tv.9">1:0:1:1F8:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

channel id="tv.10">1:0:1:1F9:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

</channels>

EEEE0000 are indeed DVB-T references that is OK.

Oh jezus,  A typo:

The lines should indeed start with <

<channels>

1:0:1:1F8:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

1:0:1:1F9:384:13E:820000:0:0:0:

</channels>

Willy

PS: You can a have look at the import.log

The log can be found in the EPGimport plug-in.

Press menu.  Choose the log.

The log can be saved. It will be in the /tmp/ folder.

PS2:  the
is not listed in the epg.xml file of Matt Huisman - you should follow his definitions

I've been snowed with work for the last couple of days so have only just managed to get some time to take another look at this

I've updated all the channel id's to match the ones in Matt H's epg.xml file but it still isn't working

When I go to EPG Importer to run it, it shows the NZ XMLTV sources file and when I click on it, it opens a treeview and shows "Matt Huisman NZ EPG"

If I navigate to "Matt Huisman NZ EPG", it highlights that entry. If I click on the entry, an X appears at the start of the line. Using the import source command (with or without the "X" showing) it says 0 events found

There is no option to create a log file and neither /tmp nor the EPGImport directories have any import-related log files in them

I've zipped the two files up but it looks like since I'm a newbie I can; add files to the forum. I've uploaded them to this address, hopefully you can download them from there
