thanks Pedro - yes the original image it is xp1000 for the folder name - this currently creates xp1000s for the folder name

am reluctant to attempt the restore for 2 reasons :-

1. I don't need to

I'd be happier if I could include the "splash.bin" from the downloaded image - generally can't be bothered with "bling" or skins but I'd like a bootup screen picture - maybe I can include it - OR - your already excellent software could be modified to backup "everything" including "splash.bin" - if it exists     

 

In truth i'm just an inexperienced noob who is afraid of bricking their box - if someone could assure me that attempting a restore (with or without "splash.bin"  - whatever else happens - would definitely NOT brick my box then i'll do it - and report back )

The splash.bin is just a picture but is not included here on the Openpli images. Your image isn't an Openpli image but an Openpli based image if I'm not mistaken.

The splash.bin isn't necessary to get a working back-up it is only some window dressing.

Again in the downloaded Openpli version there isn't a splash.bin. None of the Openpli imagaes contains splash screen.

I check the OpenPLi-4.0-beta-xp1000-20131114_usb.zip and there is not a splash.bin in the image.

 

Also if you downloaded your image here I'm wondering why the receiver reports back as a xp1000s because I think this is done by the driver?

 

To avoid any mishap because it is untested and uncertain if it works, the support for the Octagon SF8 XP1000 is again removed, the program will exit now if a SF8 XP1000 is detected.

As the images (including the drivers) for the Octagon is identical to the XP1000, I would assume that a working backup & restorefacility for the xp1000 must also work flawless on the Octagon.

It should, but why is the receiver reporting as a xp1000s, I think/thought this is driver related or is this hardware related? It is not difficult to make an back-up in the right folder but if no one can confirm it is working i'm reluctant to say the Octagon is supported.

If there are Octagon owners willing to test if a back-up is made in the right folders please say so then I will give you a test version (also owners with a XP1000 to check I didn't broke anything)

Because they are identical, including the driver.

The only differences are the embedded frontpanel and the label on the outside of the box.

The image to be used must be in a folder named 'xp1000' (and that sounds familiar).

you are correct there is no splash.bin

 

Pedro - from the version you gave me i will attempt a backup and restore using your software tonight or tomorrow

Hi Pedro

 

sorry didn't read your last post before trying it - so I didn't use your latest script 

 

I used your script you sent me in post #14 and it backed up to USB stick fine

I then used the backup in folder xp1000s to restore as follows (I have a Octagon SF8 (same as max digital xp1000) but Octagon has a front panel LED - so these are standard flash instructions for the SF8 

 

1. - but first I renamed the folder from "xp1000s" to "xp1000"

2. - I made sure there were no other other folders / files on the stick - just folder xp1000

3. -  before the restore I deliberately changed some settings - then switched off reciever

4. - then inserted USB stick - switched on receiver - it showed "USB" on LED panel - then pressed

       "CH+" (under front panel flap)

- restore began - "FLSH" appears on front panel LED - restored successfully no problems

 

I have rebooted it twice just to make sure

 

thank you again   - I presume the new script creates backup files in a folder called "xp1000" instead of "xp1000s" as the flash may complain if folder is named "xp1000s" ?

mods - if you can - please remove / amend any posts (#15 and #21) where I talk about the file "splash.bin" it is totally irrelevant to this thread and may confuse other users - I just want to say this file is not necessary for clean backup and restore

Yes the new script makes the folder xp1000 instead of xp1000s. The next version will be supporting the Octagon fully. But you already have this version now (if you download it)

 

No need to edit the postings the solution is contained in this thread

I am having a nigthmare folks.  No matter what program I use on my octagon sf8 i cannot get a full image back up.  I get the same problem as the photos in post #7 of this thread and dont understand what I have to do to fix.

The "normal" XP1000 reports itself as xp1000, this receiver as a xp1000s.

 

Just try this version and give some feedback if it works or not
