I used the sample video from here https://base-n.de/webm/4K-Sample.html

And I can get a picture from webif. So SOC in hd51 (& friends) can handle vp9.

I tested with solo4k and hd51. More or less as expected. Solo4k can't play it, hd51 can (newer generation SoC). But halfway everything gets blurry and messed up. It looks like this video is violating some constraints set by the hardware. Mplayer plays it fine.

You try play with aplication youtobe on BH or VTI ?

I think this images have orginal aplication coded by VU+

Yes, the solo4k as a pioneer in 4k missed the exotic VP9.

I also notice the pixelation after few seconds, although that doesn't change the fact that VP9 is available (on newer SoC).

If there is a bug in driver will be fixed from manufacturer. If there is a bug in dvbmediasink.... lets hope there is no bug in dvbmediasink

It can be either, afaik:

 

- bug in driver

- bug in mediasink

- bug in gstreamer

- bug in sillicon

- limitation in level/profile

 

I think last one is the most probable.

This is interesting. The VU+ Ultimo4k doesn't play it either. I guess it lacks the proper mediasink config.

Did you try to play VP9 stream with resolution > FHD via exteplayer3? Do they work?

But the same sample works with dvbmediasink?

Using the dvbmediasink it works at the beginning but after few seconds it becomes "pixelated".

I guess it would be better to test samples from here: https://www.webmproj...org/vp9/levels/

They have all available profile & levels (around 10G samples)

Hmm formater in exteplayer3 for VP6-9 has been added by @mx3L based on dvbmediasink and it looks like the same as this in dvbmediasink.

Maybe there is need to set extra data hard to say.

 

Unfortunately, I do not have set-top-box which support VP9, so I can not help.
