Hi

I wrote a little plugin that is able to convert skins of a resolution of 1280x720 to 1920x1080.

1. Copy your xml file(s) to the "skinfiles" folder in the plugin directory.

2. Start the Plugin and press green to convert.

3. The files will be saved in the same directory with the ending "new" at the filename.

What's the use actually?

As Area51online has written :- :)

I assume for Super-HD.

It still doesn't answer my question. I know what it does, but what is the USE? WHY would you want to do that?

Erik, what is the use of going form SD to HD?

If this plugin scales all coordinates and sizes from some screen resolution to full HD resolution it can be a quick start to create HD version of a skin.

After that the skin can be tuned with proper graphics/fonts or move things around to create space for other widgets.

That at least could be a use...

I can agree with you that area51online should have added a small rationale to the post...

Also this topic should be in the skins forum I think

Geen wonder... Had slechts een dm7000, maar wel ook een rotor. eigenlijk al een tijdje ook een dm600 en dm7025. Maar nu kijkend met een et9000 en vuduo

My rationale against scaling up skins is that it doesn't have much actual use. The extra sharpness you'll probably won't see from the couch, so the extra resolution is only useful for making the fonts smaller with the same point size (/sharpness) and I doubt much people would be interested in even smaller letters on the OSD. I am afraid it will only make skin rendering slower (2.25x more pixels to render/copy/etc.) without a clear advantage.

And probably not all boxes will support this OSD-size.

That's only the really old receivers, like dm800/dm8000/vuduo/vusolo etc. But besides that, there is simply so little advantage.

Area51 makes this skin - seems to be very popular :-

Has nothing to do with discouraging. I simply do not see the point, where this topic is about, of scaling existing skins to a higher resolution.

Actually, OpenPLi allows scalable skins, using panels and font-sized layout coordinates. It is possible to make a single skin that renders on both 1280 and 1920 resolutions.
