Dear Friends,

I have installed Openvpn on my DM800 by following below steps,

opkg update
opkg list | grep vpn
opkg install openvpn
update-rc.d openvpn defaults

I got below question,

1) I cant see Openvpn as a plugin or extension in  menue.

2) how i can stop/start OpenVPN?

3) How I can Monitor the status of Openvpn if it is connected or disconnected?

Thanks.

The OpenVPN packages are in the feed due to popular request, but we don't endorse its use.

An STB is not a security device, and should not be connected (directly) to the Internet. Handling VPN's is the task of a router or a firewall.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Dear Mate, Thanks for reply...and noted.

My question still remains,

1) I cant see Openvpn as a plugin or extension in  menue.

2) how i can stop/start OpenVPN?

3) How I can Monitor the status of Openvpn if it is connected or disconnected?

I am using another image where it is possible to do above, but my preference is to use PLI.

1) There is no plugin.

2) No idea, I never used it

3) see 2.

In general, VPN's are not the job of an STB, but for a router or firewall. There is never a need for direct internet access to an STB.

In most cases, they are used to securely tunnel shares, which is illegal, something we don't want to aid in doing, and against our forum rules to discuss here.

after you connect, you can telnet your dm and with "ifconfig" you can see if it is connected or not. in the log file "/var/volatile/log/" it is a file named "messages". Open it with a notepad and you can see the log
