I have a duo2 box, A/V settings are configured to 1080p 50Hz HDMI output.

I've noticed that when I:

1. enter timeshift (by pressing << or  pause)

or

2. start playing a recording

or

3. activate a dvb usb tuner (by switching to appropriate service)

then the video signal is reset somehow causing TV to flicker. I have a minimum TV's OSD on every signal change, so I can observe what happens. TV screen goes blank and OSD reports like there is no signal, then after a second or so, signal is restored to 1080p.

Note that:

I tired without timeshift (PTS) and it did not help.

Condition 3. above is flickering only when actually activating the dvb usb tuner. When I then switch from one service to another (on whatever dvb-t mux) but the same tuner is in use, then no flickering. No flickering when switching to or from built in tuners (dual dvb-s2 and dvb-c/t).

All that flickering disappears when I switch A/V settings to 1080i.

Please help as 1080p is much better or some services.

Many thanks.

Thank you very much! Problem solved with autoresolution plugin!

One question about how it works: does the plugin convert programmatically interlaced input to progressive output? Or duo2 hardware capabilities are used?

Many thanks.

How do you set 60Hz in autoresolution? I have 24/25/30 only.

Hi,

I think there is an error in AR or Solo2/Duo2. When you setup 1080p50 as standard AR sets 1080p and the VUs are interpreting it as 1080p60.

ciao

The fickering is gone when I set 1080p25 in autoresolution. I modified plugin and added 1080p50 1080p60 and when I choose one of them then flickering reoccurs.

So autoresultion plugin is not a solution here. :(  :(  :(

I checked 1080p60 and the flicker problem is still present. :(  :(  :(

Update:

I tested openATV, ViX and vu+ images. The problem is present with all images. Reported to vu+ as bug.

If you're watching on a "normal" TV-set, there is normally no sense in outputting 50 (or 60 Hz). Most material is 1080i50, which is sent as-is to the TV-set, which does the bob&weave operation to adapt to the internally used 60 Hz refresh. If the material has another resolution than the output resolution (quite common), the SoC in the STB does bob->scale->weave, so the interlacing is kept intact.

Even native 50/60 Hz, which is really rare, can be output quite good over 1080i50.

Thank you Erik. But I can see a difference on some channels when with 1080p setting. On some hd channels, which are 1080i 25Hz, diagonal lines looks much better if I set the output to 1080p50 (the same with fast transitions scenes). And I do not see any degradation in picture quality on other channels, that is why I opt for 1080p. Besides, I have a plenty of my recordings from my digital camcorder which are 1080p50 too.

BTW:

Most material is 1080i50, which is sent as-is to the TV-set

My vu+ box reports that hd broadcasted material is 1080i25 (I can see it when I play a recording). Is it another glitch in vu+ boxes?

Many thanks.

No that is probably a matter of interpretation. I always mention the field rate, while vuplus apparently give the frame rate.

I use the autoresolution plugin to make sure the scaler of the box doesn't kick in (so it's set so that every format is passed on as-is), as I use an external scaler.

If I disable that (so the scaler in the TV is used), the TV displays 1080i25 when connected to the VU Duo2, so I'm not sure it's "vu+ boxes" generic. And I don't see any switches, flickering or a black screen when zapping of going to a recording, other then the TV having to switch from 720 to 1080 when it's a switch from SD to HD material (or the other way around).

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

As far I can read some information on several fora I have the feeling that not always a signal/trigger is send when something changes to the stream resolution...

How did you configure that on duo2? I cannot set up box  so it "pass through" signal. I always have what I set up as 'mode' in A/V settings, regardless the actual signal type.

If the stb always outputs 1080i50 (if you configured that in the a/v settings), then either autoresolution is not active, or it's not configured properly. What is it exactly what you want to achieve? Not everything is possible with autoresolution.

I want to have stb output as 1080p50 (like in a/v settings). And it works, except that "flicker" which I described in post #1. When I switch from progressive to interlaced than  it works as expected, but I would prefer 1080p.

From your post #13, 2nd paragraph, I took it wrongly, that you'd disabled autoresolution. And you'd disabled external scaler apparently.  I figured out that you were able to set up a box, without autoresolution, that it passes through to TV. It is not what I need, but I was just curious how you managed it without autoresultion.

AFAIK what you want is not possible with autoresolution. Autoresolution only "knows" of resolution up to 1080i50.

Macnuts... what dvb channel is actually broadcasting in 1080p quality? If you ask me you are just configuring for trouble without no real quality gain.

Read back... He has his own 1080p50 recordings (which is rare...)
