however everyone can access this
how to set a password?

yes box has got a password
so when I telnet or ftp I need to put a password
however when I go to my computer, then go to network
I see lets say my vusolo2 I click on it then I see:
harddisk
root
when clicked on them both are totally accesable no password is being asked?

Yes the samba server is not protected by a password in openpli. You can set password protection for a samba server. You wel need to create a password database or link the base password database with that from linux. I do not know anymore how to do it. Google around samba server, it will be explained somewhere.
I personally always remove the start off samba from my boxes by just removing out off /etc/network/if-up.d/01samba-start the stop is then not needed anymore ass well so also the 01samba-kill out off /etc/network/if-down.d
I do not need samba server in my network.
If You are behind a good router like You should it does not mather. Since the server will not be accesible from out off You're network.(wan) Off course if other persons can acces You're wireless network big change that they will be able to acces you're box that way . Then you're last protection is a very good password.
