I love Rytec, I couldn't imagine using my dreambox without this fantastic listings service which is far better than the Sky broadcast one.

However, I would like to know why series/episode numbers have been removed from show titles recently? (Rytec UK XMLTV)

I found this very useful to have in the file names of recorded shows, and in the Recorded Files menu (PVR) it doesn't show series/episode info when highlighting until you press the info button for the more detailed description. (short description on the side doesn't contain this).

Having to do this for every single recorded show to find the one episode I am looking for (there are many repeats on these networks) every timeis quite tedious.

Not sure about the others here but I am a big fan of autotimers for features like series link etc.. to ensure I never miss my fave shows, as I don't have time to watch everything as soon as it's recorded I often just let it run capping my fave shows then going through one by one which was great when it had the series/episode info in the title :(

Anybody know why this decision was made and if it will ever go back to how it was before? (better)

I am using PLI4 image.

thanks for any info :)

I second this request. It gets even worse when your autotimer records the same episode multiple times, then you'll get this...

I did not remove the episode numbering.  I just is possible that there are a few channels for which I had to change the grabber, I grab now from a webpage which do not have this info.

Normally this info is present.  See an extract from E4:

I do not understand, why you do not have episode info:

Sky1 HD
Sat 08.03.2014

Arrow

22:00 60 min.

[Drama] Tremors (Ep. 12/23, series 2)

23:00

The vigilante offers to train Roy to help keep his super-powers in check, but the rebellious teen refuses to listen unless his mentor reveals his identity. Bronze Tiger escapes from prison with a plot to steal Malcolm's earthquake machine and sell it to the highest bidder, and Moira faces a big decision when Walter asks her out for dinner. Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), John Diggle (David Ramsey), Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Felicity Smoak (Emily Rickards), Roy Harper (Colton Haynes), Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett), Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), Det Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), Ben Turner (Michael Jai White), Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Walter Steele (Colin Salmon), Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), Joanna De La Vega (Annie Ilonzeh), Mark Francis (Nicholas Lea).

This is what I see in my box.  Which is the normal situation as I intended it to be.

You misunderstand the question.

As you can see in your screenshot, the title of the program is "Arrow". The episode info ("(Ep. 12/23, series 2)") is part of the short description, not of the title.

And only the title is shown in the recording list, so you end up with a long list of "Arrow" lines, without a clue which one is which episode.

Ideally this info should be in a separate data structure, but for that Enigma needs to be changed.

So I understand that it's not solvable without you parsing a lot of data (and maybe make other people mad because you need to change the title).

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

It is not pratical to put the episode info into the title, from a standpoint of grabbing.

Normally the time and title is grabbed from the index page.  Al the rest comes from the detail pages.  The title is also grabbed from the detail page, to make sure you have the correct detail page.  (Even with this check, errors could still occur.  You will see these as titles with a (?) behind it.)  So when you see this alot (a single one can happen), It is time to alert me, because at that stage we have an error.

The next day the grabber also compares the title to the title given in the newly loaded index page from the website and the cache.  When there is a difference in the time or the title then the show is regrabbed.  If not the info in the cache is being reused, no regrabbng is needed and saving time.

You could add the episode info to the title.  But then the title on the index page and the detail page is not the same anymore and certainly not the same as the title on the index page.  And my grabber will start grabbing every detail page again, wasted an enormous amount of time.

That is what I do now if I need to organize (delete double recordings), and then I manually edit the title to include the episode info. But it is sub-optimal.

We really need to pick up the redesign of the EPG system, all this info belongs in separate data structures, so you can work with it.

Same goes for other data, for example an age rating. It would be handy if you could block access to all programs listed as 18+, without having to block the entire channel. The EPG data is there for a lot of providers, and I think is some cases it can be grabbed too. But there is no way to store it in the current system.

Thanks for the feedback, I was using crossepg with UK XMLTV for a very long time and it's always included the series/episode numbers in the title (and captured filenames, because of this), but since the other week I can't get crossepg working with Rytec sources any more so I started using EPGImport instead, since this change the problems have occurred.

I assumed this was a concious decision made to change the formatting, do you think it's just because of how epgimport is parsing the data?

I thought it stopped working with crossepg because of this format change the other week, or should Rytec UK XMLTV still work with crossepg?  If so maybe it's the crossepg importer/parser that is putting the episode info in titles, I don't know that much about either application to say.

In the meantime I'll try that HD skin instead as a work around, thanks for the tip.

Crossepg should still work. If you are aware of the pitfalls with Crossepg.  (Crossepg does not use the Namespace parameter - so Cable channels sometimes play havoc with sat channels)

You may need however an updated set of config. files.

It is possible to grab other things.

The elements which are possible are given in the file attached.

This will not mean, we can fill each element with data.

Some examples:

In principle a rating for the movie is possible, although I never grab it at the moment.  I only found one grabber definition (which I use) which is capable of grabbing it..

Although when it is available on the website it should be possible to grab it and include it.

Willy

PS:  The XMLTV importer has to be adapted to include all this extra info.  Now only title, subtitle and description are supported.  Also enigma has only 3 fields.

Not only the importer has to be adapted, the entire EPG system needs to be rewritten. To add fields, to no longer store it in memory, etc.

Unfortunately, not something that will be done by tomorrow, given the current state of the code...

fyi, it doesn't work, tried a few images (including pli) manually imported sources downloaded, waited for parsing to finish, nothing appears in the EPG any more.

other forums I see I'm not the only one having this problem with crossepg support stopping working as of the other week, I am still curious to know what was changed recently which mucked up everything, and can it be changed back to how it was when everything was working well? :)

I would not now what is wrong here.  I do not use Crossepg myself.

I definitely have not changed anything conscious that could account for this.

BTW you are not using the XEPGDB sources by any chance?

Are there not any clues in the log file?

No, XEPGDB stopped working with crossepg a few months ago after the Rytec service had that big break with being offline in October 2013 (updating services just showed 3 services), so people like me started using UK XMLTV instead, now another change happened and this stops working with crossepg also.  So basically, there is now no service working from Rytec with crossepg, sadly.

I tried merlin3 (latest image), nemesis (old image, comes with built-in crossepg), iCVS and Pli4, before the unconscious change a few weeks ago the Rytec service did work with all these images.

I wouldn't know what log file to look at or how to understand the errors, I'm a very basic user.

It does download, and says parsing, then stops. Usually after parsing it says something about deflating objects (?) with some numbers of events, this action is not happening any more, it just stops after parsing data.

Oh well, at least we have XMLTV importer (epg import) as a work around, even if it doesn't put episode numbers in titles like crossepg used to, it's functional if not ideal.

crossepg adds the title/series info to titles/filenames, edit the sources as described in this thread and it works again:
