We're (Erik that is) are completely rewriting the stream and transcoding handling, to make it generic for all boxes,

Does this mean it should now also work on ET8k &10k?

No, not yet.

The full specifics of the ET transcoding aren't known yet, but with the new generic setup much easier to implement.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Indeed:
It's not working on Duo².

On the other hand, it didn't work yesterday either.

And when I say "Doesn't work" then I don't mean "I just cancelled the login and are now claiming it doesn't work at all" but "Even after logging in, it doesn't connect/play".

Yeah great, that what counts for the solo2 also applies for the duo2. Opening any proc or dev file while an encoder is open -> segmentation fault in the user space program.

Great.

I need to think how to workaround this.

What do I need to do to make the transcoding work on the VU+ Duo2?

have just installed the streamproxy plugin, nothing from the former ones.

Getting following log entries in /var/log/messages on connect:

What do I need to do to make the transcoding work on the VU+ Duo2?

I wish I knew. Every day I learning something new about the transcoding that doesn't work, crashes etc.

But this message:

Apr 14 19:50:04 vuduo2 user.warn streamproxy: ClientSocket: exception: WebifRequest: cannot connect

says it cannot connect to the web interface. It needs to talk to the web interface to set up the streaming channel.

Just as an side note... I tried it the access using:

- OpenWebif and VLC Player no stream auth

- OpenWebif and VLC Player stream auth

- Android dream EPG App

No success. Error message is the same for all: "WebifRequest: cannot connect"

If I kill the streamproxy process and start the app with "streamproxy -f" I get error message:

"ClientSocket: exception: WebifRequest: cannot connect, system error: Connection refused"

"ClientSocket: exception: WebifRequest: cannot connect, system error: Connection refused"

The streamproxy must be able to connect to localhost (127.0.0.1) on port 80 and there must be a web interface running on that port. This errors suggests there is none.

Ok I just tested . The transcoding self does work fine (at least the live(8002) the file I did not test yet ).

But it only uses 480p the settings /etc/enigma2/streamproxy.conf do not apply.

I now just reset the transcoding-setup.sh and then I can play around with settings they work all 480p 576p and 720p

.

They do work and media does change. So for Hd I can go up to 720p if network does support it that's ok. (for an sd channel that's usseles off course.)

So You're idea of being able to adapt it for a specific stream is very very very good :)

If I have a slow network I could in despit off channel (hd or sd) limit size to 480p

If network is fast enough I could limit to 576p for sd channel higher is usseless. And 720p for HD channel.

If I wan't the full 1080p I just can use the regular streaming on port 8001. That's perfect on local network. Not ok for internet (in my case the upload is the limit)

OK, so you can play with those resolution values but what about playing with bitrate values?

I understand it's not possible now but will it be possible at a later stage?

with the transcoding-setup.sh  (in the current pli version it's removed again) You can play with them all.

Playing with the size no problem  . how to just change by editing the transcoding-setup.sh the size and rerun sh /etc/init.d/transcoding-setup.sh

For the others It's mostly ok but sometimes the encoder crashes. Then box restart is needed. (that's on vuduo2)

small note for vlc version 2.1.3 is required to have it all perfect and if using ubuntu 12.04 libav needs to be updated. Vlc needs to be compiled by you're self as the default is still 2.0.8

Like I said, I know there is at least one problem that needs to be fixed.

On the other hand, it if works one moment and stops the next, it's probably the encoding engine that crashed, check dmesg.

For me it's working now... the critical point was that OpenWebIf needs to have Port 80 available. I had it on Port 81 before.

Even the config file is working now and I can set 720p from the /etc/enigma2/streamproxy.conf.
