You guys should stop associating the need for auth on the streaming port with hooking the box up to the internet.

 

Even if you have no intention of doing that, it still means it will stream the pron channels without any way of blocking them.  Which is why I think it must be there.

This problem has been fixed. The streamproxy now monitors the config file, when it's changed, it restarts automatically. In the feed tomorrow.

I don't know. pieterg added basic authentication to the streamer and it should just work. "It doesn't" work is a bit tricky to debug.

... making Enigma2 streaming auth depend on OpenWebif (Won't properly work with old Webif) and using the wrong config setting (Making streaming auth depend on webif general auth setting and not on webifs stream auth setting, thus re-introducing the bug that stream auth can not be disabled without disabling webif auth entirely).

That's great, thank you for all your hard work! Unfortunately I'm now experiencing another problem, streaming from the 8001 on my internal network does not work any more. It keeps asking for login details in VLC. Any idea on how to fix this?

You have to know that the PLI in OpenPLI means "Painful Level of Ignorance".

I have told them they broke it when they removed the seperate streamproxy and I also told them they will just break it differently if they refuse to revert wrong decisions and instead implement more bugs.

They haven't listened.
The OpenPLi credo is: We do not implement (good) fixes, only even better bugs.


There are only two possible fixes:

• Download und unzip the attached streamproxy binary
• Put it into /bin on your box
• Make sure /etc/inetd.conf contains this line:

  8001			stream	tcp6 nowait root /bin/streamproxy	streamproxy

or

Drop OpenPLi and use a well maintained image.

Do you mean streaming authentication on port 8002 using transcoding? I am not sure VLC on mobile (Android, iPhone) supports streaming authentication. I think most players do not. The native android videoview does not, at least not out-of-the- box and may require a hack to do it.

Besides this very valid point, it won't help. The more offensive you (SpaceRat) get, the less likely it will become someone will be bothered to listen. Which apparently already is going on.

 

For the good atmosphere on the forum I am kindly requesting you to moderate your tone a bit.

Ignorance and thus intentionally breaking things can.

If users don't pay attention to warnings, they will burn their own fingers, like little children which can't keep their hands off the stove even when told not to do so.
Devs however which shoot all warnings into the wind burn the users' hands ...

It might happen unintentionally as nobody is perfect.

But devs actively pressing the users' hands onto the hot plate is effrontery by the devs and not by me, the one who critizises that kind of sabotage.
Nobody can claim he hasn't been warned before.

If someone continues doing wrong things after being warned, he has to live with the consequences. Either freezing when not wearing a coat although he was told it's going to be cold or earning harsh critics for his incompetent work.
And note that critics weren't harsh but just became so in steps, after friendly notes about being on the wrong path didn't help.

You guys (Not personally you, Erik, but rather the OpenPLi devs as a whole) are currently wedding E2 to a plugin, which is just plain wrong.

It's the only clean one, everything else would just be a bad workaround and I have already explained WHY.

I'm experienced enough to fix some of the bugs - those that matter to me - in OpenPli on my boxes.
I've got working stream auth on my Ultimo, working stream auth and working trancoding (Erik's transcoding proxy works just fine) on a friend's Vu+ Duo² and so on.

As long as I can work around the OpenPLi bugs, it's ok for me to do the changes myself and not switch to a different image.

I just had the misconception that the devs might be interested in making the image better and work out of the box for those who can't help themselves.

Why need transcoding if not play on mobile device?

Android app DreamDroid work with auth on stream ang give to player clear stream withot auth.

In old version OpenPli transcoding work normal, but without auth.

 

In this time 8001 without transcoding + auth = work good

8002 with transcoding + auth = not work!
