By the way, could someone educate me why the default transcoding uses baseline profile and level 3.1? Wouldn't high profile and 4.0 result in better picture quality with the same bitrate?
Also, is it possible to set the framerate in /etc/enigma2/streamproxy.conf?
The defaults used, are the defaults that VU+ uses in their drivers. These are the values you'll find right after booting. I have found these values work best, probably because they are tested more thoroughly by VU+.
The reason that VU+ selects these values in their drivers is probably because it makes the stream compatible with almost all portable devices. Of course you're free to select level 4.0 and profile high, I used it all of the time. Then also add b frames level to 2. Most modern devices will play it this way.
On the other hand, I've never seen much impact when changing these values, so you might be disappointed
I've left out support for the framerate feature (completely) on purpose. The feature doesn't seem to work. I never see anything other than 30 fps output, whatever I set the framerate to. Using same values the transcoding engine won't work at all or crash. So I guess this feature is (another...) balloon of hot air.
