Dear OpenPLI devs and users,

I have a quite intriguing problem with playback of *some* mp4 files on ET9200 with OpenPLI 4.0.

I can watch them, but I cannot pause, skip fwd or skip rev. As soon as I pause/play or skip fwd/rev (also with numeric buttons) picture freezes (but audio continues).

In order to recover I have to stop, clear movie position and start watching from the beginning.

I cannot reproduce the problem on VuDuo with OpenPli 4.0. Everything works great here.

Is it somehow related to ET9200 drivers? Does someone experience similar problems?

As you can see from the above MPEG4 is just a container, the file format in this case is: "AVC v4.1".

The question remains, can the ET9200 handle this format? I for one don't know. Maybe someone else does?

I have the same on ET9000

Probably Kosh has a good point about AVC

Mine are also AVC format

Hi OpenPLI team,

The same problem exists for AVC High@3.1.

Everything is fine on Vu Duo 1, so it is probably just a driver issue, that should be possible to fix, right?

Would it be possible for OpenPLI to let Xtrend know about this problem/limitation?

Interesting thing is that the problem is gone when I convert mp4 to mkv via mkvmerge - audio and video codecs are unchanged.

This it what the logfile shows when playing the testfile on the ET9000.

I choose the picture, push one of the skip buttons. The picture freezes and audio also. After I push the play / pause button several times the picture continues to play without any problems.

The ET9000 doesn't respond ok on either movies. The VU+ duo looks to work better, it this case. The Blueray doesn't work but it looks to work ok with the second movie.

Perhaps that other people also could try this on their STB like the VU+ Duo of Duo2. In that way perhaps a real solution could be found more easy.

In addition to the above test, both the ET10000 and the ET8000 works as it should with both testfiles which I received from Atilaks.

I'd better not place the downloadlink overhere. I think that's for him to decide. ;)

Meanwhile I tested one other STB. Also the DM500HD works like it should work. Only the play / pause can't work but skipping forward and backward works great and the movie continues ok. The fact that the play / pause are not working is just another issue.

We are not using keyframe seeking, and it looks like it's problem for some receivers. I found mp4 which has exactly same problems like this. After enabling keyframe seeking there is no freezing anymore.

If this indeed solves the problem, I'll surely apply the patch. Non-gstreamer-media (dvb...) are already only sought on by keyframe. This might make seeking less precise on media that have long GOP sizes (up to 250 frames with h264 IIRC), but I suspect it's exactly these media types that cause the problems. So if there are no objections, it will get applied, thx!

Thanks. As for play/pause issue, we are now using trickseek on resume, so on these mp4 with high GOP sizes it doens't work - picture freezes. We could use again keyframe seeking when resuming, so it will jump to nearest keyframe. As sidefect this could mean that on resume video would jump few seconds back/forward. I'm not sure if this is right approach or if it's even neccesary, since pause/resume works well in most cases and if keyframe seek will be applied we have option to un-freeze paused video by seeking back/forward.

That's interesting. Actually I think that unpausing always start from a keyframe, I can't imagine the video decoder holds the state in the meantime (referring frames etc.). Can you try it and see if it makes a difference on "normal" mp4 and mkv files? I'd be surprised. BTW all the mkv's I make (with h264 and aac inside) always play just fine, so the problematic ones must have "something", maybe a very long gop size?

Yes I will try it. Maybe you have receiver which can handle it, for example on et6500 mp4(probably long gop) video freezes after seeking/resume, when I run same mp4 on et4000 everything works.

I also tried to get gop size of this mp4 with mediainfo but there was no info about it.

Hi mx3L,

Thank you for looking at the problem. Could you share your patched enigma2 binary?

If appears to work and have no obvious side-effects, it will be patched into the mainstream enigma2.

Thank you Erik for your reply.

As I am little impatient I decided to compile enigma2 with patch from mx3L, so I can test it myself :) Here it is for et9x00.

Skipping on mp4 works again, thank you mx3L! I will let you know if I find any problems.
