Hello.

 

Sorry for the two-for-one topic here. :-)

 

I recently upgraded my VU+ Duo til Open Pli 4, and everything seems to work fine, except that the Box freezes sometimes when I try to change the channel. When I press buttons on the Remote, the green lamp lights on the Box, indicating that it receives the Remote command, but nothing happens.

I also cannot reboot the VU+ from the PC or anything. I have to switch it off and on physically With the button on the back.

This has never happened before in the past.

I have tried both CCcamd and MGcamd but that does not make a difference. My signal strenght is approx 12 dB.

I have transferred channel settings from older image.

I also have a problem that some HD channels are blocky while other say: Tuning failed. Even though the signal strenght is good.

 

Does anyone have an idea what these two problems might be?

VU+Duo with strange problems means your power supply is starting to fail. A certain capacitor on the motherboard needs to be replaced with a low-ESR type or a pair of a electrolytic capacitor and a ceramic one. If you fail to do that in time, more components will break.

 

I am sure someone else here can tell you which capacitor I'm talking about.

Capacitor C807, I replaced it in my Vu+Duo, works fine now.

Always solder an additional ceramic capacitor in parallel, because most electrolytic capacitors have a way too high ESR and will break sooner or later.

I already have had my tuner repaired once.

I dont know if a capacitor has been replaced or not. I hope so.

Anyhow, the problem started right after installing OpenPli 4.

So I did a reinstall without importing old settings.

That seemed to work.

No more hangups now. So that is Nice.

 

As for the blockiness of some HD channels, this also occurs on all other VU+ tuners from People that I know.

Does anyone have the possibillity to check these channels:

 

Thor 1 West (0,8w) KU Band:

(Canal Digital)

 

Discovery HD Showcase (Mod: QPSK, Freq: 12015000, Symb: 300000 Hor Fec 3/4)

BBC HD (same as Discv. above)

 

Other HD channels on other frequencies are good.

Could there be a channel setting that is not optimal? The signal strength is 11-12 dB.

Can I manually adjust some parameters on the transponder freq?

I'm watching C Series HD right now, I actually prefer to watch HD channels and have no problem at all with blockiness (on my Vu+ Duo).

I also frequently watch BBC HD btw.

 

The signal on BBC HD is at the moment : SNR 82%, AGC 76% and BER 0.

And 13.3 dB.

 

My antenna is a 1 meter Fibo with motor.

 

I did have some blockiness issues before, especially during poor weather conditions, but then I replaced the coaxial cable as it seemed corrosion in the connectors lead to a bad signal.

 

(Even later I replaced the 20+ years old Nokia Single LNB with a Invacom TWF031 dual LNB)

No problem on my VU+ Duo on Discovery HD Showcase and BBC HD i have 13,4db/82%.

I live in Troms/Balsfjord, NordNorge

The strange thing is that all other HD channels are good, and other friends I know have exactly the same problem With those channels.

 

 

Also: Do you still have FOX HD?

Mine is gone. I only have FOX (SD) now after scanning....

yes i still have FOX HD. But how many channel u get when u rescan on thor? i get 597
