I have brought a new Vu+ Duo2 and have flashed direct from original image to lastest Openpli-image from 2014-05-21. That i meet a problem and make box very slow to zap with remote because it is high active in the box. That is very annoying and will get to some advice how it will solve? It is no problem with OpenATV and it work perfect and have same system as Openpli. But i want use Openpli instead for OpenATV..

This is a problem in the VU+ drivers, that do funny things if the date on the box is not correct. And for some reason the box doesn't boot in 1-1-1970 like any other linux machine, but with a date in 1958.

Once the date is set correctly, this problem is gone. So either set a startup transponder that has correct time info (so the box boots up on that transponder and picks up the correct time directly), or use the systemtime plugin which fetches the correct time from the internet using NTP.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Thank you, WanWizard. I have understand this problem with date and it will work better when i scanned a transponder so all is ok.

BUT i have still problem with Openpli. The image will freeze with bootlogo when i have start up box when i enter on power. Do some here know how it can solve? I have no problem with OpenATV, OpenVIX etc. It is only Openpli as i have problem with. I want use Openpli than another image...

You means when the box does a cold-boot (power on via the switch at the back, or after deep standby) it's shows the OpenPLi spring bootlogo (with the lake and the trees) and then stops?

This is an issue reported with several boxes, but we don't know exactly what causes it. It can be reproduced if you flash the box, and abort the setup wizard. Once properly configured you should not have a problem anymore (if not, then you have a different problem ;))

Thank again WanWizard! You understood me correct. My Openpli work perfect now. I will give a little and simple guide to all as have same problem as me with Vu+ Duo2

1. Flash Openpli image with USB

2. Start up into it is a meny that you should choose HDMI, Scart etc and put direct power off via the swith at the back

3. Put power on and start up again and install in normal way.

It will make the boxes will start on 1970-01-01 instead for 1958-11-08 and work very perfect without some issue.

Many thanks to WanWizard for great explain! ;-)

You should NEVER switch a box off using the power switch (or by pulling the plug).

Remember it's a linux machine, and it behaves just like a PC in this respect, you risk a damaged OS or config. You need to shut it down properly from the menu.

I have computer technicians that my profession and have done that kind of methods thousands of times on PCs and have never had problems. I have DM800SE with power button in the back for 3 years and have stopped when it reaches first part of the installation after the flash. It works great today.

Can you please explain that it is not good to turn down when the box has been flashed complete and reaches the first part of the installation ie HDMI, Scart, etc? Have you heard that kind of case, where the box will break if you turn off the power? Bootloader is installed and the image will not affect when the box has been set to default.

The reason that you should turn off your computer through the menu on the reason that when the OS is up and running, it may have changed some of the files that it needs to save when you turn the boxen and it will not reach when sudden Power Off when unplugging or when you press the main power switch off.

But if a totally chash and nothing happen when u use a Remote then is ok to use the main power switch ore unplugging the Power Cord

And specific to the box: all config changes are kept in memory, and are only written to flash on a proper shutdown or restart from the menu.

If you just pull the plug you can leave the operating system and Enigma in an unknown/unsupported state, causing all kinds of problems when you start up again.

For PLi this is not correct: changes are also written upon leaving the menu.

That is not implemented everywhere in Enigma yet.

And this specific point is about the setup wizards, where we know it's not the case (see the VU Solo2 doesn't boot topic).

Channel list changes are lost if power off with the power switch without first setting the STB in standby or shutdown.

Same applied for the last viewed channel.

Thanks for all factors. I understand now that the box is more sensitive than normal computers.

My "bad" method is the only way for me to run Openpli without problems. Because when you have solved the problems with bug with date and have configured all the settings so you can just restart Enigma. If I want to do a real reboot it freezes bootloader and will not boot up Openpli bootlogo or bootlogo freezes. It is no some problem with Openpli-based Openvix and OpenATV (i using this image now).

Is there a way to solve problems with the boot of the box? Command in telnet? Or fix in some file that they take care of the boot?

Not true.

If you switch of a Windows (or Linux for that matter, although that is a bit more resilient) PC in the middle of operation, chances are it will not boot again due to disk corruption or inconsistent state. And the box in that respect is the same a Linux PC, but without all the failsafes of a desktop distro (no disk check and repair on bootup for example).

As to the boot problem: I already explained that if you flash a box, and do not restore a backup, and abort the setup wizard after it starts using the exit button (instead of the exit menu item), it will not cold boot anymore. It is something that is being looked at (the exit button should not work if you are not allowed to exit). It is difficult to fix, because we can not reproduce it, all boxes flashed sofar give an are-you-sure popup on exit, and close properly instead of simply terminate.

Workaround is simple: do not abort the setup wizard, other then via the menu option that says you can.

I see that it is a misunderstanding here. I explain more clearly what my problem is. I do not restore backup or cancel configuration with a power switch after flash.

I flashed the box with this instruction:

1) Do not remove the power before You flash.

best way : Whit box running ! , remove all eventual usb devices plugged in in any usb port.

Use an usb stick off max 2 Gb formated fat32 (with a stick off 4GB it works only now and then however i've seen a change into vuplus.code.com which is just for this mather I guess)

insert the stick containing the expanded vuplus map with the image you wan't to flash.

shutdown the box trough menu (do not unpower the box )

restart box via the power knob. And push this knob again when update starts flashing.

It will nicely flash and all will be fine.

2) If power was removed before You flash

You will encounter this slow menu change with regularly time keeper and so on.

To recover normal working, When after flashing this problem arise, first telnet to you're box . issue command:

root@vuduo2:~# date -s "2014-03-28 09:26"  (the current date and hour ) You're problem with slow menu will be solved

I flashed and it worked and do finish configuration example HDMI, Network Conf, Tuner Conf and etc and come to "Favorite" meny and I press exit on the remote control and check all configurations and all works as it should. But when I would do a reboot of the box with remote control and there is my problem up. After rebooting, run the box stuck in boot mode with text "double your exepectation" in the display. On the TV screen shows them a bootlogo from the original VU + Image. The box would not boot to Openpli bootlogo.

I have tried with different Openpli-image, but the problem is same. I have tested all the other image and do not have problems to restart the box. My question now is if there are errors on my Vu + DUO2 or image Openpli?

Still the same issue as if the setup wizard was aborted at some point.

Sofar I've only seen it on two VU Solo2's (there is a separate thread about these), but we can not reproduce it on our own boxes (Solo2 or others). So eventuele I drove to the person owning those two Solo2's and saw the problem myself.

I flashed the boxes again, let the setup wizard start, chose for HDMI on the first screen, 1080i on the second, "English" on the third. The forth screen allows you to start the configuration or exit the wizard via a two-option menu. If you select "exit the wizard" here by selecting the option and press the Ok button, you can but the box in deep standby, switch it of, and boot it again, without problems. After this you can configure the box via the setup menu.

As said before, we know this is an issue (seen on a Solo2, now on your Duo2) but we can not reproduce it. Which makes it difficult to fix it. It is easy to see if you have this issue, by flashing the box, and pressing the exit key on the HDMI screen. If it exists without an are-you-sure popup, and gives you the empty service list (with favorites) instead of the language wizard, you have a problem box too.

If so, could you NOT reboot the box at this point, but go in the setup and make sure your box has a network connection, then use a PC to telnet into it, type the command 'dmesg' on the prompt, and post it here? We're very curious if there is some sort of error message in the logs.

Hi,

I also reported this issue on the Duo2 when I had one for test.

The workaround was to force the system time (for exemple at the date of the last compiling) before starting the wizard but you don't want to implement this workaround which is specific to VU+.
