Hi Guys,

I just noticed that the signal-meter cannot show more than 17db / 100%

But in the past I have signal on 19db, so why is it suddenly max 17db ?

Ìs it a bug or why this limit ?

THANKS.

Because manufactures do not provide a way to read db, so what you see is a calculation based on snr (or signal). So you can ask your manufacturer to add support of reading db from driver. PS. There is no ioctl for db on linux dvb-api, so probably this can be done via proc (or undocumented/non standard ioctl)

And on my ET9000 I never see more than 16.2dB (99%) but it doesn't bother me that much.

It never shows 100%, 99% is max in my case.

dB is relative..... some boxes give more levels than the actually can be given due to standard background noise within the amplifiers.... It was tried to get them equal... but this is utopia....

See how it works here: http://sourceforge.n...ontend.cpp#l753 Function calculateSignalQuality has cases for several tuners, db is just a calculation over snr. Dreambox calculations done in the past by dreambox engineer who probably knew more about driver internals. Other caclulations are just aproximations done by the community of open source enigma2. So my point is that f@ck1nG manufacturer should give back to open source enigma2, by improving enigma2 and components used by enigma2 (eg GStreamer). Enigna2 its not only cloused source drivers. Sorry we are not gonna take it any more...

The extrend code is also forwarded to us from the manufacturer....

It seems to be likely that the quality from dmm boxes are much better, based on these numbers...;) dmm's tuners do not have any internal noise.....

At the end effect only the inner fec is a concrete good value to measure signal quality, but it seems no manufacturer of e2 boxes gives this value from their drivers/tuners.... If we get a fec it is not the correct one...

In any case manufactures should pay more attention to their users, if users asking for better db display, they must provide it (or open drivers code and let community to do.. :)) DMM is history for OpenPLi, they choose different route, their bad.

The more precise limit shown by my ET9000 seems to be 16.17dB (99%).
