Hello,

I have a DM500HD and I'm new to surroundsystems and have some question for you guys.

1: In the sound menu there is an option "AC3/DTS downmix", this can be on or off. What is this? Should this be on or off? I really can't hear any difference.

2: In the same menu a few channels is listed with AC3 soundtrack and many with MPEG. Is AC3 soundtrack surround? I mean, I can hear difference between those. I suppose AC3 is better. On MPEG I dont get sound in my surroundspeakers, only front.

3: Is it possible to make the Dreambox select the AC3 soundtrack automatically?

I have the dreambox connected to my surround reciever with HDMI (Of course) but not the digital sound output (Optical?).

Hi,

1. downmix means that the box makes 2.0 out of 5.1 and sends it as PCM to the TV/AVR. This is needed if the TV does not support AC3.

2. AC3 is another name for Dolby Digital and it does not mean automatically Surround as there are also the formats DD 1.0 (Mono), DD 2.0/2.1 (Stereo without/with sub). If you want surround if present you must select AC3.

3. should be in the settings of the box something like "select AC3 if present" .

ciao
