Hi, I have been using OpenPli images for the last few years to receive mainly SKYUK/Freesat, I have always used CrossEPG and OpenTV (direct from transponder) EPG.

 

I have changed receiver to a VuSolo2 and want to move to OpenPli lattest image, I am using Open Pli 3 currently, but I have read that CrossEPG and OpenPli 4 have issues and I am better to move to Rytec XMLTV, my only doubt with this is that Rytec XMLTV grabs the EPG infro from Rytec servers whereas with CrossEPG I can grab that same info from the satellite transponder which for my scenario seems a better proposition.

 

Is there any way to grab EPG info from OpenTV satellite transponder with Ryect XMLTV ?

Any other option to get the EPG direct from satellite for SKYUK?

Hi, thanks for your answer, Is a little bit weird having to get the EPG from the NET where is already being sent on the satellite you are watching, but being Rytec the preferred EPG tool for OpenPli I will give it a go.

SKY doesn't use DVB standards, but OpenTV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenTV), which is a propriatary format, not open source.

 

CrossEPG uses code and decyption tables revealed by hacking and reverse engineering, which until now is not something we have added to OpenPLi.

 

Besides that, adding additional EPG readers to Enigma would also transfer CrossEPG's instabilities to Enigma, which is something we definitely not want, so before we do first Enigma's internal EPG code needs to be reworked.

Hi Thanks for your answers, I have been comparing side by side Cross EPG OpenTV and XMLTV for a few SKYUK/ Freesat  channels and the EPG is somewhat different, I guess that I am more confortable from the satellite feed, but that being said using the CrossEPG OpenTV solution has issues with Enigma that I want to avoid.

 

Any way that I can get XMLTV for SKY UK feed similar to the one is being feed in satellite ?

I created an lightweight OpenEPG Plugin for DreamOS which uses ONLY the OpenTV stuff from CrossEPG.

 

At the moment it only downloads into the DreamOS EPG Database, BUT it would be very simple to change/downgrade it to use Rytec's EPGImmporter epgdat.py.

 

The reason is that my epgdb.py is api compatible to it, so that it can be used with only minor changes in the EPGImport Plugin..Then you would not use the CrossEPG loader anymore and sineatd the prooven epgdat.py which probably would make the problems go away, as the Data extract works pretty stable.

 

Feel free to adapt OpenEPG to your needs if you like it. It is using 2 crossepg_* binaries which are under GPLv2, the whole OpenEPG Plugin is GPLv2

 

OpenEPG is still under development so please be patient, but in 1 week or so, it should be failry stable.

 

And yes, now DreamOS also is capable to load OpenTV EPG data

OpenEPG Plugin still works nicely on  DreamOS

 

Making it work with old epg.dat is only a small effort ...but if nobody is willing to do it ... then there is no development.

"OpenEPG Plugin for DreamOS" is easy to find (@ http://www.oozoon-bo...d&threadID=1466) and hence easy to try on your PLi-powered box. I haven't had the time to do so yet.

The package contains the crossepg binary, so changes are it won't work.

Well, execution fails in the first place because of "Only available on DreamOS".

No doubt that can be amended, for which we have permission from The Great Author, but it shows the mentality (again/still).

I've stated multiply and in public that I'm very bad in writing code. Only if you disagree you would annoy me.

Regarding the error message - look at the code, exactly where the message is thrown you journey to replace will start. Hence the message is exactly meant that way - if you remove it without replacing on non DreamOS your first crash is close....

All used CrossEPG binaries were built from public sources.
