I just bought DM 820 HD (expecting delivery in next few days). My question is can I use any of existing images in download section or I have to wait for image for this model ?

No, and there wil not be an OpenPLi image for new Dream hardware, this has been the case for more than a year now.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Very nice, I am still pondering to buy either the DM7080HD or the DM820HD. Now owning a DM8000 with 4 tuners which is still working flawlessly. Problem is that I have very limited info on which firmware offers the most features and is reliable. Both Dreamboxes are new and are using other chipset than most mainstream boxes. It will take time to get the software and plugins you may want to install. One source in Holland says it's softcam support is not 100% stable... Please keep me posted

Perhaps for next time: look first, buy later? I'm pretty sure the 820 is quite expensive too, compared to the competition.

Buying DMM is a very dumb thing to do these days. Unless you don't know what to do with your money...

There is truth in WanWizrd's statement.. I bought my DM8000 because of it's high quality in design and manufacturing standard as well as the use of the highest grade electronic components. After owning a DM7000s which would still work *if* I bothered to set it up again, i regarded Dream as the top brand. Well recent years have proved that this quality is 'long gone'. DM800HD-PVR and DM500HD were very poirly build, with numerous problems.. While the price has stayed very high in comparison with compatible boxes this makes you wonder.....

On the other hand, the cheaper boxes (although offering the same functionality) tend to get bust even more than a Dreambox... If I look at the forum what happens to VU+ and Xtrend boxes, not very joyfull. Bad PSU's, Safety boards dead.....

Well, I did look, first, before I buy :). There is few images for DM820HD, already, one of them is Ozoon, Black Hole etc. How they work, I don't know, but I will found out that in the next few days.

Perhaps for next time: look first, buy later? I'm pretty sure the 820 is quite expensive too, compared to the competition.

Eur 495, delivered. What competition ? clones ? I don't think so

If you have 495 euros to spend, you can buy VU+ Solo2 that has two tuners (DM820HD has one), has CI support (DM820HD does not), runs XBMC (DM820HD does not), and you save 200 euros (VU+ Solo2 costs less than 300 euros). And most imprortant, VU+ Solo2 runs the best opensource enigma2 distribution, OpenPLi. DM820 does not have an opensource software solution any more.

+1 malakudi :)

For 495 euros you could have bought any supported receiver from the list, I don't think that even the quad tuner models like the et10000 cost that much.

A good single tuner would cost less than 150 euros.

I guess you are right, I don't have experience with VU but I don't need second tuner, CI support- I use CS , XBMC or how they call it today - Kodi, well I have other equipment for media and I don't need it in my receiver. Multimedia don't have open source software any more simple because they try to fight with clone producers in China ( unsuccessfully ) as you know. I'm using DreamBox for over 10 years and I'm not interested in Korean plastic boxes. Last DM I bought was DM 800 HD PVR quite some years ago, and at the end I'm not Dream Multimedia shareholder :)

You always "need" a second tuner. Even if you don't run a second cable from your dish, you can use the second tuner as internal loop through to have more options what program to watch while you are recording. I guess you do recordings.

The thing is, for a box that costs 495 euros I would expect to see some breakthrough, some improvement over the competition, some innovation. Unfortunately DMM has lost it, it hasn't offer something innovative for long time.

It is your money and you can spend them any way you like it, but don't be fooled - you paid more for less and this is not opinion, it is a fact.

You can only have latest Dreambox features if you are using the closed source binary.

You cannot use transcoding with OE-A. You cannot use OpenGL with OE-A. Generally with Open Source forks you are loosing the "benefits" of the closed source binary.

Regarding transcoding there are trying to implement something new with GStreamer 1.0 and rtsp server. I don't know if they succeed yet. ( http://git.opendream...r.git;a=summary , http://git.opendream...e.git;a=summary )

It's the other way around, Dream stopped supporting Open Source.

What ever the reason is or who to blame the result is the same - no Pli images for new DreamBox models.

The result is slightly different...

For the open source community Dreambox offers less added value... As openPLi stopped supporting these boxes, for us Dreambox offers no added value at all... ;)
