Just reflashed a VU+ Duo to 4.0 and it will not read a 4TB Seagate USB drive. It was running Open Vix which would read the drive after installing an NTFS driver from the plugins under "drivers". I cannot find this under the PLi plugins list and I'm surprised it doesn't just read an NTFS drive anyway.

Should work right out of the box, without the need to install anything. It should be able to both read and write NTFS disks.

Are you willing to do some extra diagnostic and help fix it? (in particular, that'll boil down to some telnet commands)

Umm, I realise it should work right out of the box so it's slightly irritating, I've plugged in an ntfs stick which also doesn't work so it's definitely a file system issue. Yeh telnet is fine and I appreciate the help. It should be noted that I've flashed with the 3/4/15 nightly build.

It looks like it detects both the 16Gb USB stick and the 4Tb disk just fine.

Next thing to check is where each of these are mounted (using the "mount" command).

Oh yeh it was seeing the disks alright but just reported "no displayable media" and some "ext error reference" when trying to playback files in the media player. Anyway I've now seen this NTFS issue with Open PLi images a number of times on various boxes and looked at an old thread on the subject which mentioned running "opkg install kernel-module-ntfs". Did this, rebooted and I can now see the files on both drives, I'm just surprised that I've had to do this with a nightly build from this week!

I do have a further question, when setting the "recording path" I only seem to get the option of "/hdd/movie" and cannot browse through the mounts eg. "/mnt/Seagate Expansion Drive/movie", now luckily it is recording to the external Seagate rather than the actual "/hdd/movie" I can see when I FTP into the box. I was using a mounted network hdd on a DM800 and had this set as "use as HDD replacement". I've since removed this setting, restarted enigma yet it still appears as the "/hdd/movie" drive via FTP, yet the "/hdd/movie" in the recording settings is pointing at the Seagate?

OpenPLi mounts the largest storage device on /media/hdd (and your stick will be at /media/usb). Most users don't know to look somewhere else.

As to the driver, I remember that on some old boxes (with a small flash), some drivers were not installed by default, but the Duo2 has plenty of space. So this should be checked...

Ok thanks, to me I don't think the menu's in the "Media Player" and "Recording Path" are consistent and can cause confusion. I quite often browse local and network drives in "media player/pvr" and find it reasonably intuitive, I was expecting the same in the "Recording path" and feel uncomfortable basically making a recording then finding out where its been saved to?

When you say "needs to be checked" do you mean the nightly builds? I'm not very farmilar with the DUO2 and had quite a few issues trying to reflash it with a USB stick, I had to reformat the stick with HP format and had to unplug all other USB devices such as card readers and usb drives before it would work. I initially tried the build from 4/4/15 then ended up using 3/4/15, more on instinct rather believing there was a build fault with 4/4/15.

Recording path(s) is just a list of one or more paths to which you can record, i.e. the paths that are selectable when you create a timer.

By default there is only one, /media/hdd, if you have something mounted there. So it serves a completely different purpose.

And I indeed meant an internal check, to see why the driver isn't part of the initial image, but an optional package. This is something that has to be done by hand, normally only dependencies (things that are required to run) are included in the base image by default.

Perhaps @MiLo can double check the build process?

By loading kernel-module-ntfs you get an old read-only NTFS driver. Try writing to the disk, if it's writable then something else caused the disk to be recognized.

NTFS should be supplied by "kernel-module-fuse" and "ntfs-3g".

Run "opkg info ntfs-3g" to see if they are installed. The fuse module is usually built into the kernel so it's okay if there isn't an explicit package for it.

Looks like was installed (see below). I'm happy now as its working, but I still get the "no displayable files" when I first plug an NTFS stick in, but if i wait a few seconds I can play files in the media player. The "ext error" has disappeared since running "opkg install kernel-module-ntfs".
