Let's be realistic.
This means that there will never be a support CI+ on openPli for all recievers.

Maybe, maybe not. There are also chances that I will get very rich, but maybe not. My point is that the goal does NOT always warrant all the means. If we can add CI+ support to all models and that means we're getting subpoenad, then, no we're not going to do it. Let's have that clear.

The certificate used is licensed to a specific manufacturer, for a specific device, and issued after succesful certification of the hardware. The license explictly forbids the manufacturer to use the certificate on other devices.

Not only audit of the hardware but there is also audit how its implemented in the software of the hardware.

But there is already a certificate and a ci+ solution available in the public.

Everyone can add it to their image only it cant be offered in the feeds of the images.

But I agree AFAIK its totally legal to offer castrated ci+ support in the feeds to download and the user have to add a valid certificate by themselves to get it to work.

That is the route we're looking at, at the moment.

And that requires someone with the skills and experience to transform the existing CI+ solution (the code available for that solution) to source that can talk to our existing CI+ API, and that can be compiled into a seperate generic cam-like binary, to which the user can add the certs in a seperate file.

I believe that's not too hard to implement.

Its not a matter of skill: it needs a brave heart too!

If its for sure perfectly legal many people will be willing to do this.

But as long as I'm not 200% sure I'm not gonna be the man in the newspapers who will be hung on the highest tree for implementing it in public

All perfectly legal AFAIK.... I only contributed some minor things to oscam mostly dvbapi related.

Never added any new CAS support or lines of code that implemented some kind of over encryption.

I personally use oscam pure for dvbapi usage to watch my paid channels with the smartcard I bought from my provider.

Its not my problem people misuse oscam for other purposes. For same reasons they could prosecute manufacturers of gas bottle since they can be misused to blow up atm's

People misuse for example OpenPli images too for distributing illegal IPTV streams....

Ten years ago oscam didn't work for my personal usage. After raising some tickets no one seems interested in fixing.

So I started changing things myself and contribute them to oscam. Now it works fine for my usage.

So if it doesnt work ok for your usage:improve the code and contribute!

@theparasol

Yes, I remember. You change smart card timings from us to ms (so, far I do not know why, you mentioned something about the fact that you bought a book about sc protocols).
After your changes some embedded sc readers were broken (sc hang up after some time, manny re-sync).
Till now some user have such problem with oscam from trunk.

At present oscam works better for you and part of some users (I suppose?), but it also works worse for some others.
For me it is no problem - I have own trunk of oscam, but what about users which are not programmers?

Let's stay on topic people! This discussion is too important to let it slip!

I personally use oscam pure for dvbapi usage to watch my paid channels with the smartcard I bought from my provider.

This is exactly what we want with CI+ support. It can't even be used in any other way than with a provider supplied smartcard and provider supplied CI+ module.

The only thing we don't want is the provider stuffing his crap hardware down our throat...

CI+ even works nicely with those evil PLi images :D

Only their English is poor - their new "not really genuine" bootlogo has some entertainment value too ...

But it is funny that you insist that 'somebody' should create an open source solution for CI+ Messaging interface which needs some effort instead of changing 1 codeline and enjoy ...

Indeed, but to come back to topic - as I already mentioned the unknown developers added already support for your client camd socket (which was quite a surprise for me to be honest), recently they added a fifo based emulation of the ci devices, which allows (despite that this helper steals the ci devices from enigma2 and your MMI interface is too old for clean MMI Socket support for multiple modules) to run the normale CI assignment and CI menu totally unchanged.

Hence this offers already more functionality than you strange and not even self invented CI+ messaging interface, because it allows correct handling of 2 Modules and even if both are from same provider, which is something the Open* Images solution never fully mastered until now to my knowledge.

Hence I'm pretty sure that they would NOT have any big interrest to support your CI+ messaging interface, because it is worse than what they have done already.

Technically this means you would implement it probably on your own and not hope for any "brave" person to waste his time on it.

And even when it is 1 line of code - it would probably take a skillfull person <1h to do it, who owns all existing VU+ with CI(+) support (despite that I'm assuming that all of them use the same ioctl, this needs to be verified).

On this I'm pretty confident, because even I think that I could do it and I'm always a good trehshold for a bad programmer.

But you are lucky - it would take me much longer and I don't own any VU+ box - hence you are pretty save to get all the furtune and fame on your own

Good practice - but as the VU+ owners are currently screaming the loudest, I assume that they would be the most motivated.

But it works also nicely on a dm7020hd with lates OpenPLi as my testers told me.

Well, as I already said ... the jokers have a working solution for their "not so genuine" PLi Dreambox Images ...

But we can do a simple test to verify that I'm not talking compete nonsense;:

If anybody wants to put a recebt VTi image on a VU+ box, then run a full strace of the enigma2 process from beginning of inserting the module until CI+ completion of authorization and first picture shown and posts the strace file and the output of ls -al /proc/xxxx/fd where xxxx is the pid of the enigma2 process during trace so that we are able to identify the device file descriptors ...

- THEN I think I can tell you if my >90% is a 100% hit.
