Found it. :)

Now allow me to quote Pr2

if the OpenWebif is configured to be password protected then the generated link in the .m3u file should include the login/password in the proper way.

It is not user friendly to ask them to edit the file and add this login/pwd for every service entries.

So dev of OpenWebif should consider to support this.

This may be a late comment, but why start a new one. :)

One thing I don't get is that the authentication for http streams are the same as authentication (Login and Password) for OpenWebIf.

That would mean that if I send an authenticated http stream to my brother he would have the possibility to login to my OpenWebIf?

Or anyone, that can get the http stream with my login credentials..

Would that be the case?

Damn, what the point to use it then anyway. I just close it down so no snoopers can get in. And my younger brother can go to sleep. It was his idea.

And you don't make it much harder, it will take 20 seconds or so more to find your altered port.

Security by obscurity is always a bad idea, and there are now active searches for open streaming ports, by people that run illegal IPTV networks, so be warned.

So how can we do so that it will be more secured ?
NB : I tried through a VPN service but stream gets stacked and freezes way too much. Any idea why ?

Only in exceptional circumstances can you stream over internet, in virtually all cases, VPN or not, the lacency and jitter is not compatible for realtime data.

Transcoding works better as there is some buffering involved, but not much. But that requires a box that supports transcoding.

Then you are in the lucky circumstance that both ends have a big and fast pipe, and you have not a lot of latency and jitter in between.

Most people would "jump a hole in the air" if they could have 12Mbps upstream. I know I would...

Remember that you can't compare the situation in the Netherlands (with very fast and cheap connections, and a lot of FTTH) with most other countries...

I have a 30Mbps Up but my VPN is apparently unable to use this bandwidth...

Don't know why...

VPN on the box?

Logical, STB's in general have a very weak CPU, usually just enough to power the GUI, by far not enough to process high-speed encryption.

I can't say, I've dumped Fritzboxes a long time ago. But they have VPN capacity on board, so you should be able to check its IPSec specs for example, they should be comparable.

Yes, afaik most (maybe all) Fritzboxes are not fast enough. Maybe latest models have enough CPU power.
