That is going to be the next step, but in the meantime, I still need a new STB, since this one is dying. Given the security board issue, I'm afraid that keeping the box too much time unpowered will trigger battery drain faster.

Another thing I read is the continuous failing of power supplies. I bought a ET-4000 not to long ago. Nice price and enough for my needs. Hope my power supply keeps working...

Personally I would *never* buy any box/brand where the manufacturer decides when it's time to call it quits. Security against piracy/cloning is fine. But honest buyers of an original should *never* have to suffer from these methods. 2032 batteries can lay in stock for years before being used in a SB. Battery dead, system dead is really ridiculous. In that respect a Security SIM like Dreambox is a more sensible system..

Neither would have I bought it, if I knew the Xtrends contains such a "feature".

They are from the same development train, so (without any evidence) I would say yes. The newer boxes, the 7000, 8500, ... have a new design. Which might mean other problems as well, we don't know.
I find it not a really interesting discussion. I had to replace the power supply of the DM 800, the power supply pcb of several DM 7000's, the elco's in the VU+Duo and so far no security board. We'll see what breaks next, in the end, something always does.
Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)
Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

They only want to protect their design.

Xtrend had made a comment that when time comes, they will make a software fix - suggesting they would release a driver that doesn't check the SB. So far they haven't done.
I was not aware of that.
Hope they will release the driver soon, especially for the boxes that have been discontinued, such as ET9000.

Good question.
I guess hundreds of e-mails from disappointed users would not bother them.
But there are people on this forum and other forums who are closer to the manufacturer than you or me and they could pass the information about disappointed users, especially as the manufacturer promised to solve this issue - this is how I understood malakaudi's post.

The only "pressure" comes from how you spend your money and, in case of people that their opinion is respected, what they do suggest in their cycle.
I will not buy again Xtrend until they really fix the issue, not just for me (I have 3 dead boxes) but for everyone. And that is what I am suggesting to people asking my opinion. For example, in a greek forum I was recently asked about VU+ Zero or ET7000. They have same hardware. I suggest people buy the Zero, unless they need the CI port that 7000 has.
Sure, PSUs break, capacitors break, IR headers fail, fan fail on many STBs. You can fix those problems with minimal cost if needed. The SB? No, you can't fix it.

Hi guys, just came along this post searching for "warranty". My Xtrend 4000 is blocked with all three lights ON when booting (tv - shows 'invalid format' when connecting with the box).
This is my original post : http://forums.openpl...id-format-dead/
Based on the symptoms could the box be dead because of the issue "malakudi" describes?
