Question. I installed and configured openvpn but I'm not able to get it to autostart when booting.

Everything works fine if I enter bash and start it by entering /etc/init.d/openvpn start.

I installed openvpn by using opkg, did update-rc.d and so on but no success. Even tried to start openvpn through /usr/bin/enigma2.sh and /usr/bin/enigma2_pre_start.sh with and without sleep but no success.

Any suggestions how to get openvpn to autostart the vpn connection?

update-rc.d openvpn defaults

Thanks for the reply michal47 but I have already tried that and it doesn't start the vpn. Have to telnet my openpli-box and manually start openvpn after enigma2 is up and running.

Don't make vpn endpoints on a stb. You will regret it sooner or later. Use a proper router/firewall.

Yes, it's the way, but could anyone tell us a secure config and teach us all basical parameters and the options of each file, only user/passwd authentication for example, to start with a basical but safe cofiguration??

This sentence, your sentence littlesat, it is for someone that knows what to do with openvpn options/parameters, so in this case this person wouldn't ask here, he would make it with no asking to forum, I think so.

Forum philosophy is share knowledgements with others dont know how to do something. Nobody have to laugh of nobody, There are people that knows more than you and some other knows less than you. up to you. I think you learn quickly, but I sure somebody has taught you lots of thing, so you can make the same, you can teach us about openvpn...please???

hello littlesat, I just want play streams throught vpn server. Install and configure openvpn, on my formuler f1 box or any box in my local network to be able to play streams from enigma2 box to external network by vpn server...I was able to connect to vps with vpn server installed on vps (openvpn), because I ran a wizard script that guides you to configure openvpn but for enigma2 all files creation is manually, and i am lost. thanks, greetings.

Did you already create a key and licenses set? This is the first you should begin with. The rest is easy and straight away

still not for enigma2, how to create the files on putty command line in ssh login on formuler f1?? All is working on a vps with the wizard script. But dont know how with enigma2. I'll try again and again, looking for some info but it really would be fantastic that some member teach us the way to do all the process in enigma2 boxes. greetings

That script
  • ... has an OS check here: https://github.com/N...tall.sh#L27-L45
It will only run if it positively detects CentOS or Debian.
That part could be removed to make it continue ...
  • ... requires an installation of easy-rsa in /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa ( See https://github.com/N...-install.sh#L89 )
easy-rsa is not available from any E2 distro's feed, but you can copy an existing one from any Debian system
  • ... wants to set firewall rules https://github.com/N...ll.sh#L307-L341
This would require "iptables" to be installed on the box and certain kernel modules to exist and being installed too.
There might be more quirks, e.g. I think OpenPLi lacks the "nouser" user within the "nogroup" group.

So this is actually exectly the same topic/issue as the "How to connect to https".

Exactly like I said there, this kind of scripts is NOT designed to be run on a settopbox (even though it's a "linux computer"), don't waste your time, it won't work.

What WILL work is find out how it works and do it manually.
