Hi,

I've bought an external box with 2 locations for hard disks. I have several option with this box :

- single which normally allows to see the 2 discs

- raid 0

- raid 1

- big which adds the 2 disc in 1 logical disc

I've chosen the "single" option but I only see the disc of the first location. I've tried in aSata ans in USB but it's the same result. If I try with a Windows PC, I can see the 2 discs.

The box is an ICY BOX IB-RD3662U3S : http://www.raidsonic...e_objectID=8760

Can somebody help me?

Thank you :) .

I guess if you use the "big" option it should work as this probably won't need a special driver. Similar would be "raid0" with the benefit of faster writing/reading as data will be split on both disks at the same time. With "raid1" you will have a mirror disk for backup, so only safety but no space or speed advantage. But I suspect you will need a driver for the raid modes.

No, the only mode I want to use is "Single". I've not tried Raid modes because they delete all the existent data and I don't know what it does with "big". On disk2, I've not any backup. Thus I have to be very careful ;) .

Well, according to the specs there is only support for PC and Mac. I guess without the necessary linux drivers you can only use the first disk in single mode. I assumed you just bought it and were still about configuring it. But if you already have a lot of data on those disks I would be careful, too.

I looked for a box to install my external backup disk and when I see I can have this box which have several functions, I thought it was a good idea. I didn't think it was necessary to have a specific driver  .

Hi,

It seems that you need the Port Multiplier capability on your STB controller to support this, unfortunately for you the controller in the Xtrend ET-9000 doesn't seems to support it.

ata2: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310)
ata2.00: host does not support Port Multiplier
ata2: hard resetting link

So I think that you will never see 2 differents disk on the same eSata connector on your Xtrend.

https://en.wikipedia...Port_multiplier

Manufacturer have no obligation to support this on eSata port.

And if you read the ICY Box documentation you will find something like this:

Note: Port multiplier at host computer needed, if connected via eSATA

Thank you for the explanation.

There is no information on the documentation about the properties of eSata but they say it's for Windows and Mac systems.

There are no "chips" used.

STB's use a SoC, a "system-on-chip", where everything is in the same chip, from CPU, audio and video processing, networking to USB and ATA support.

So you're limited to what Broadcom supports in it's SoC, and that is very limited to keep the price down. Remember it is an STB, build for watching TV. Not a Linux desktop computer.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Ok but when I bought the double box, I didn't know it needs special characteristics.

And the demo price is the same as some personal computers ;) .

Yes, just because it runs Linux, many people think a STB is something like a PC, but it's really not!

As I can plug an e-sata disk or an USB disk, I don't ask me questions when I saw this box, I thought it was managed by the box ;) .
